There are three people already running for the office, including Barbara Lee (a black woman). Who ever he selects is not going to have the money, field operation etc to overtake those already in the race.

Maybe I’m more familiar with this because it’s so regularly in our news but there isn’t a conspiracy here. Newsom wanted to shore up his base during the recall which is why he promised a black woman. He has also said it will be a placeholder, not someone already in the race (Barbara Lee). Whoever the placeholder is will not overtake Barbara Lee.

It is hard to beat an incumbent. Barbra Lee couldn't beat Oprah. the name recondition is just too powerful. And she would give a free gift to everyone (joke) We shall see what will happen.

There are very few people in the world with Oprah’s name recognition/money. She doesn’t need to be appointed to run for Senate if she so desires. Incumbency helps normal people. Oprah’s name transcends that.

I've certainly been wrong before but the idea that the Democrats killed Feinstein so as to prevent Newsom from appointing Oprah to the Senate as a caretaker because she will double cross them and announce she's running for the seat in 2024 is not something I'm capable of wrapping my head around. This seems like Alex Jones level stuff.
