Maybe from the American perspective. The issue was that it was not a proxy war from the Vietnamese perspective.
Had Russia won at the beginning, maybe. Instead, it is a conventional war. There may be small insurgency actions behind the frontlines, but most of the war is on the frontlines.
What is Boeing selling that Ukraine is using? The one plane we are even starting to supply to Ukraine is the F-16, from Lockheed Martin.

Vietnam was a civil war. North and South Vietnamese did not consider themselves ethnically distinct from each other.
The North - South division was supposed to be temporary and the UN expected it's to be resolved by election, which the USA stopped when it was clear their preferred political leaders would lose.
The South Vietnamese were not willing to fight and die for their corrupt government. The South Vietnamese army basically broke and when the North Vietnamese invaded in 1975.
America should not support armies that won't even fight to defend their territory or government.
Ukraine is a sovereign nation l, it considers itself distinct from Russia, it is willing to take steps towards becoming a European democracy, and it is willing to fight to defend it's independence.

America stepped in to back down the two Communist powerhouses that were invading all of Southeast Asia.

Russia will keep Donbas ,....they will also be made to use oil profits to partially rebuild Ukraine. Rest of rebuild money comes from U.N fund. Ukraine agrees to remain neutral and never enter NATO. Well, let's take a closer look at that. If it ended the way some on the right wanted it to originally - no aid to the Ukraine, and a quick victory for Russia - Putin would have very likely been emboldened in his quest to "get the band back together" in terms of the old Soviet Union.
Now, he likely will not get what he wanted (the whole country), and his military has been degraded & weakened to the point where he's basically powerless to further threaten his neighbors or the rest of the world.

If Putin has to agree to your idea of basically going back to the starting point of where he was at on February 24 2022, that is a massive and completely unexpected defeat for Russia.

They won't give up. There is a surprisingly large number of ex-pat Ukrainians who live here and elsewhere outside of Ukraine, who are sending monetary and solidarity support home. One of 'em is one of my nursing school friends.
