"Democracy" is a euphemism for "Marxism." We the People don't want democracy; we want a representational republic. We don't want tyranny; we want freedom. Democracy leads to tyranny by oligarchy, that's why the Constitution does not deliver democracy, but instead guarantees a republican form of government for all.
You have it wrong about the Republican party.
The Republican and Democrat parties that existed in the 1970s and earlier no longer exist. The Democrat party was the first to fall, being overtaken by rabid Marxists who HATE freedom and who are entirely fascist, following the NAZI playbook to the letter, to include utilizing brown shirts, arresting political dissenters without cause and centralizing all media under a propaganda wing. It was not long thereafter that the Democrat party infiltrated the Republican party and now completely controls it. The Republican party is now full of Democrats that OBEY the Democrat party, and We the People astutely call them RINOs. The Democrats are much smarter than the Chinese communists who outlawed all other political parties. The Democrats keep the Republican party operating, and even arrange for Republicans (who are on the payroll) to win elections per an established plan, all to propagate the appearance of two competing parties. The reason that Donald Trump is loved by the vast majority of Americans, but HATED by the Republican party and all of the media, is that the Democrat party has instructed the Republican party and all of the media to HATE Donald Trump ... and of course they OBEY. Disappointingly, Mike Pence is apparently the latest to jump on the Democrat payroll. Look for Pence to make a strong showing in the RINO ranks, due to behind-the-scenes Democrat support, resulting from his efforts to help the Democrats bury Trump.
It used to be that only Democrats cheated in elections to help Democrat candidates win. Today Republicans, in the form of RINOs, fully aid their Democrat owners in that regard, i.e. to help Democrat candidates win.
The Democrat Party is still the party of slavery, the party of dishonesty and the party of election stealing, but today they have outsourced much of the burgeoning backlog to the Republican party.

Thus, a key part of democracy is that the people have a voice.
