I disagree with Abbott on about everything he's done, but his solution to the immigration issue sticks it in the eye of both "sanctuary cities" and Democrats who aren't pushing hard enough for Immigration Reform. While it's true the Republicans haven't pushed hard for it either, it will be difficult for them to push back on immigration reform if it's brought to the table.

I don't know the answer to the immigration problem, in all honesty.

We don't have the means to accommodate them all

but if we're not a sanctuary to desperate refugees,

we'll have as a nation

even less moral high ground than we have already.



I don't know why Mexico and Canada aren't helping out more.

We have to bear the brunt of the whole thing

as the issue divides a divided nation even further.

I wish that Europe would offer to set me up with sanctuary

so that I could do my part

and make room for one more Central American.:cool:

Most are economic refugees. Clearly the US has more money than the Third World Shitholes they are coming from. A clue is found in the Great Recession, the most effective stop to illegal immigration in the US in the past half century. No jobs, no money, no hordes of illegals seeking to come to the USA.

Immigration Reform means many things; mainly clarity of procedures such as work visas and enforcement such as locking up employers to don't verify the legality of their employees.

The main problem in illegal immigration is money; too many people are making so much money off the status quo that they don't want to see the system changed and will "donate" funds to Washington politicians to keep it off the table.

Even if we define the problem, we don't seem to get any closer to the solution.

What I know is this.

If it's indeed the EXTREME problem that people are saying it is,
then there will be NO moderate solution for it.

If America has a purpose in this universe,
that purpose is to demonstrate how there are NO moderate solutions
to EXTREME problems.

Nobody can match us at proving that.

We haven't solved an immoderate problem since World War II
and we needed Stalin's help with that.

Because TPTB don't want a solution. They just keep mouthing about it, but their reelection campaign donors prefer it not be acted upon. Call me cynical, but results count. This issue has been with us for decades.

It's not an extreme problem. Politicians exaggerate if not outright lie, then never do anything about it.

Disagreed on immoderate problems. Ask Japan....specifically after August 9th, 1945. LOL
