Biden fights back against GOP onslaught on education

Biden regularly denounces Republican efforts to remove or restrict certain books in schools, but he has opted against fully engaging in the culture wars being waged by many Republicans. Instead, Biden and his administration are emphasizing areas they see as more resonant: increasing school funding, combating pandemic-era learning loss and addressing students’ mental health.

So NOW he blames the democrat induced shut downs...had nothing to do with the GOP, and now we see the lying , treasonous left is trying to start another Covid crisis to assist in election theft, via unvetted, unsolicited, unverified, ILLEGAL MAIL IN BALLOTS.

Wow.

So many books that we read are now being banned by the rightys. Does that say that the books poisoned our generation? In fact, books do not hurt people. Reading something outside your life zone is part of what education is supposed to do. I read "Let None Dare Call it Treason" and did not burn down bastions of the left.
The right believes in mind control. Turning history into a right wing myth is not beneficial to students.

By Abandoning Civics, Colleges Helped Create the Culture Wars

We believe that this intolerance of ideas is not just a consequence of an increasingly polarized society. We think it also results from the failure of higher education to provide students with the kind of shared intellectual framework that we call “civic education.” It is our responsibility as educators to equip students to live in a democratic society whose members will inevitably disagree on many things. To strengthen free speech on campuses, we need to return civic education to the heart of our curriculum.

Well said. I read the Bible and did not convert to Christianity. I read the Quaran and did not convert to Islam.

In the absence of civic education, it is not surprising that universities are at the epicenter of debates over free speech and its proper exercise. Free speech is hard work. The basic assumptions and attitudes necessary for cultivating free speech do not come to us naturally. Listening to people with whom you disagree can be unpleasant. But universities have a moral and civic duty to teach students how to consider and weigh contrary viewpoints, and how to accept differences of opinion as a healthy feature of a diverse society. Disagreement is in the nature of democracies.

Free speech is meaningless.

When you can't read a book in a school board meeting it should not be in a school library

Maybe Brandon would have better success to show us all how much his administration done to improve student scores over the past two years.
