Suicide isn't part of the gun issue. Unless said act happens immediately after a mass murder.

There is no action that could be taken that will actually improve the gun situation in this nation, as there are millions of guns on the streets right now. No legislation has ever been proposed that allows law enforcement to confiscate guns, even though that lie was spread for 8 years of Obama's tenure. In '13, the proposed law had restrictions:

The legislation excludes the following weapons from the bill:

  • Any weapon that is lawfully possessed at the date of the bill’s enactment;
  • Any firearm manually operated by a bolt, pump, lever or slide action;
  • Assault weapons used by military, law enforcement, and retired law enforcement; and
  • Antique weapons.




Pro gun activists, mostly republicans who are owned by the NRA, will not even allow a nationwide background check requirement. Nor will they allow restrictions for those with mental disorders.

There is no answer to the problem in this nation due to the sheer volume of guns on the street.

This is the society we want, and deserve. Best if we just keep thinking and praying.

There is no gun issue. We have the society we have created, and it's best to just think and pray at this point.

Just as Abbott claimed that he's going to reduce rape in Texas so that rape victims don't have to get abortions, you won't reduce mental health issues for those who don't see their delusions as a problem. Which is pretty common.

Trust me...historically, I seem to have this thing for crazy women ;)

'Mental health' is just a talking point Republicans use, just as Democrats have their taking points. Whereas overt racism might be a mental issue, there is no pill that can fix it.

And our politicians now seem to pander to the worst of the worst in society.

Suicide IS germane to the gun violence issue. Often, suicide is attempted in the heat of the moment. Maybe premeditation for sometime before, but spurred by an incident or event. Drugs and/or alcohol frequently involved.

Guns ensure that attempt is more likely to be successful than say an attempted drug overdose. The proximity of guns to those who may contemplate suicide makes the risk level skyrocket.

So, yeah. It is germane.

I'm trying to recall anyone who committed suicide with an AR 15?

Suicide, while tragic, only affects the victim and close friends and family. If it occurs after a mass murder, that's different of course.

So proper funding for mental health might help with suicide, but quite often loved ones never saw it coming.
