Would you vote for a presidential candidate who calls for suspending the Constitution?

Can we at least begin to start being honest? That would be nice. As we ALL KNOW,......75% of the people in here regardless of political affiliation would do just that if the politician calling for the suspension of the Constitution came from the party of their choice. The time for lying to each other in an attempt to gain petty political points is over now,...tell the truth.

Case in point....." rendition".

"The United States does not resort to barbaric torture of enemy combatants,......Oh,...but we will fly the captured terrorists to Bulgaria where the Bulgarians will fry their nuts off while one of our CIA interrogators watches and takes down notes,...but hey,...WE didnt do the torturing"

this is absolute truth and anyone denying it is deluding themselves. If Biden called for suspending any and all parts of the 2nd Amendment, 75% of democrats here would support it, even if only temporary.

we already know that republicans would suspend parts of the Constitution that they don't agree with as well.

another example.......ignoring the part of the Constitution that binds the federal government to prohibit certain conduct, but GITMO isn't in America, so imprisoning and torturing enemy combatants is ok

Not closing GITMO is one of Obama's failings IMO. Probably chose not to because of advisement from the military leaders.

It's a shitty loophole, as opposed to just outright wanting to ignore the Constitution to install a president that LOST an election.

I wouldn’t

In what cases are presidents allowed to suspend the constitution?

Answer: Never. I learned that in 7th grade civics.

You weren't taught about the suspension clause in the constitution apparently.

It's in Article 1 Section 9

It's what Lincoln used to suspend the constitution.

I would have to hear his/her alternate plan.

If I liked it, I definitely would.

I can't help looking at the People's Republic of China.

They have done what the former Soviet Union couldn't do.
They have proven that a nation can be highly successful without democracy.
Their citizens have an improved standard of living every day.
They have huge, beautiful, modern cities that didn't even exist two generations ago.

One has to be careful suspending a constitution,
even one as mediocre and poorly written as ours,
but if somebody has a better alternate plan,
I'd definitely like to hear it.

In the end, living well, with a decent quality of life, is the most important thing of all.

But the Constitution is what creates the office of the president, so you’d be voting for a strongman, not a president, right?
