What did Trump's team do in Arizona?

Trump's campaign to overturn the election began immediately after his 2020 loss when his lawyers and the president himself pressured the Arizona Legislature to somehow reverse the election.

The campaign included Trump lawyer Giuliani visiting the state shortly after the election and hosting a meeting at a downtown Phoenix hotel where he stirred concerns about the state election.

U.S. Reps. Paul Gosar and Andy Biggs, both Arizona Republicans, attended, sitting behind Giuliani as the lawyer made outrageous claims about Arizona's election. At one point in the hours-long meeting, Giuliani suggested Arizona had 5 million "illegal aliens" living in the state, which only had a total population of 7.3 million at the time, and nowhere near that number of undocumented residents.

Its organizer, state Rep. Mark Finchem, R-Oro Valley, had sought approval for a meeting of the House Federal Relations Committee, which he chaired, but never received it. And the Legislature’s own lawyers said in a written opinion after the election that state law requires Arizona’s electors to cast their support with the presidential candidate who won the most votes, a provision they said lawmakers could not revise retroactively to affect the 2020 election.

Mark William Finchem[1] (born April 24, 1957)[2] is an American far-right[3][4][5][6][7] politician who served as a member of the Arizona House of Representatives representing District 11 from 2015 to 2023. He is the Arizona coordinator for the Coalition of Western States, an organization that opposes the activities of the Bureau of Land Management and supported the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 2016.[8]

Following the 2020 United States presidential election, Finchem supported Donald Trump's false claim to have won the election nationally and in Arizona.[46] On the same day that Joe Biden's victory in Arizona was certified by state election officials, Finchem met with Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani to discuss the election; he has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that the election was "stolen" from Trump.[13] Finchem has promoted the "independent state legislature theory"; after Biden's victory in 2020, he called for the Arizona legislature to appoint presidential electors of its own choosing. Finchem promoted the then-fringe theory before it gained currency among mainstream Republicans

A group of 22 Arizona Republicans, including the Republican Party chair and multiple state legislature members, signed papers intending to cast false electoral college votes in December 2020. That paperwork is now the focus of both a federal and state investigation.

State Attorney General Kris Mayes (D) ratcheted up her investigation into the group in July, requesting records from involved figures. The investigation is in its early stages.

Figures surrounding the case also received federal subpoenas for information and communication, according to local media

New Mexico

State Attorney General Hector Balderas (D) started an investigation into the group in January 2022, but like in Michigan, referred the case to federal prosecutors. There has been no public action in either a state or federal investigation since.

Attempts to overturn election results in Wisconsin embroiled Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), whose staff allegedly assisted his state’s slate of fake electors. Johnson has declined any knowledge of the incident.

Ten Wisconsin Republicans signed documents claiming to be electors casting votes for Trump after the 2020 election.

The group drew the ire of Gov. Tony Evers (D) on Friday, who said he wants them prosecuted.

New evidence details Roger Stone’s efforts against 2020 election: WaPo

BY LEXI LONAS AND REBECCA

Stone, a longtime political adviser to former President Trump, is having a documentary made of him called “A Storm Foretold.” A Danish film crew has followed him around the past two years to produce the film.

Video from the crew shows Stone involved in numerous aspects of the Trump campaign to unwind the election, including knowledge of a plot to oust Justice Department leadership days before it was publicly reported.

It shows him communicating by encrypted messaging app with Stewart Rhodes, leader of the Oath Keepers, and maps his movements at the Willard Hotel with members of the far-right group by his side as his security guards. It details more about his campaign to secure pardons before leaving office – including a plot to secure preemptive pardons for lawmakers who voted against certification of the election results.
