The Lost Boys of the American Right

These are not people folks

People bow to shame at some point

These are foreign disinformation bots

They go nonstop into the haze of lies

No concern for how they are perceived by other humans

Some people lose the sense of decency they grew up with. Gets lost in the swamp of politics, and it’s a simple fact you see this on the Right more than on the Left.

Speaking up like racists and bigots. Have you been listening?

The Internet spawned all this. Our social media used to be our much maligned "main stream press" that for all its imperfections kept us on a civil path. No more.

The problem here is that YOU think some social media company needs to keep you on a "civil" path. And I don't want to be civil with you and your kind, if you don't like me or what I say then fuck off.

What is going on? Why are parts of the right — especially the young right — so infested with outright racists and bigots?

Some readers might respond to my question with a question: Why am I surprised? The right has always been infested with racists and bigots, you might argue. Yet while I freely acknowledge that there was more racism on the right than I was willing or able to see before the rise of Trump, there has been a distinct change in young right-wing culture. It is dramatically different from what it was when I was in college, in law school and starting my legal career.

While I can't read the article because I don't have a NYT subscription, I can guess that the gist of it is that this Leftist liar... err, lawyer, with a mediocre liberal arts degree from somewhere who graduated law school and has lived his entire life in an urban setting surrounded by other Leftists thinks what he wrote without a shred of actual evidence from experience other than via social media and the internet.

The article's writer is the sort that has to call AAA for roadside assistance because he's too stupid to know how to change a flat tire and thinks it's beneath him to learn.

You don't have kids do you? Kids do what they do, they don't listen, you can only influence them so much. It's like they think for themselves or something like that. That was a major pain in my ass when they were under my roof but now that they're out in public and you don't know how to deal with them I have to admit I'm having a bit of a chuckle over your question.

One of the grandkids just spent about 6 hours in my driveway changing the fuel pump in his car. He was so stoked to finish the job and the car worked afterwards. I went out periodically to see how he was doing--giving him shit and talking smack that he tossed right back-- each time. I did drive him to the auto parts store to get more gas and vent line hose because these were badly decayed.

I'm proud he did it on his own, and he was too. That's how it should be.

Did he have parts left over?

I think you are missing the point.

There was a southern strategy by both sides during this time, how successful it was or not is irrelevant.

No, I just haven't seen any evidence for the Nixon Southern strategy. No campaign speeches, no campaign posters or flyers, ... zip, zero, zilch.

The South continued to elect Dem govs. and Dem local pols. as illustrated by the 1983 Gov Map. While the white libs (silently) contend that the Northern States all became racist and voted repub in 72 and 84. It makes no sense.

Can’t complain about being in a gutter if you pick it, right? You’re an asshole but it’s a point.

Martin is a racist. What did Dems do the last 50 years with Martin's support? ...
1.keep Black Americans trapped in Norther ghettos
2. demonize their religion and fatherhood
3. destroy their traditional families
4. deny them an education
5. encourage Black women to kill their children before they are born
6. create permanent poverty with generational welfare
7. deny them police protection
8. release criminals back into the community
9. dump infected illegals in their neighborhoods.
10. and "Lynch" Black republicans

The Democrat party is still the socialist party of racism, and stereotyping according to immutable physical characteristics.

The southern strategy wasn't a campaign ad which is why you don't see posters for it.

It refers to an attempt to win over the white vote in the south which each party was going for.

I already referenced Nixon's campaign person who wrote a book outlining this strategy and how he states that if a president could get the white vote in the South how they would only need minimal gains in other parts of the nation to either win the presidency or retain it.

Now you can certainly argue about how successful it was, many think it wasn't but it was still attempted.

Remember that this was never advertised, it was strategized about behind closed doors so the things you need to look for is how Nixon and others appealed specifically to the white voters of the South and I've already provided evidence for that.

Yes, everyone always references Kevin Phillips and Lee Atwater. It is not evidence. It is racist speculation.

Democrats believe all Blacks are criminals, drug addicts and on welfare (I don't). So Dems oppose any Federal or State policy to solve those issues, and claim those policies are racist. That white lib premise is racist nonsense.

Everything is racist to a white lib, even camping and exercising. Or being white and just looking at a minority the "wrong way" like the Covington child.

In the second half of the 20th century, the Republican party used the so-called “Southern strategy” to win the votes of white southerners.

White southerners had traditionally been Democratic voters, in part because the Republican party was closely associated with abolitionists and with the civil war and with the post Civil War reconstruction agenda.

The south’s Democratic party loyalty was partially fractured during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s tenure, because many southerners resented his support for unions and for a larger government.

For the most part, though, white southerners continued to vote for Democrats until the 1960s. They were called Dixiecrats.

In 1964, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, a sweeping bill that banned segregation in public places and protected Americans against discrimination based on race, religion, or national origin.

The Act was so divisive that after signing it, President Johnson supposedly said: “I think we just delivered the South to the Republican party for a long time to come.”

The Republican southern strategy can, in fact, be traced back to 1964.

That’s when the Republican candidate for the White House, Barry Goldwater, tried out his “operation Dixie,” undertaking a sweeping tour of the south to try and win over white voters.

Republicans didn’t win the South solely by capitalizing on white racial angst. That decision was but one in a series of decisions the party made not just on race but on feminism and religion as well. The GOP successfully fused ideas about the role of government in the economy, women’s place in society, white evangelical Christianity and white racial grievance, in what became a “long Southern strategy” that extended well past the days of Goldwater and Nixon.

https://politicaldictionary.com/words/southern-strategy/

Essentially when the Dixiecrats faded away it left the Southern white voters disenfranchised so both parties tried to court them into their camp.

As you can see, the republicans were ultimately successful in this attempt.

Nice you think my support had something to do with it, though I've not been a voter that long.

You're incorrect about "The Southern Strategy", by the way, not that it was Nixon's idea. The strategy was launched by the Goldwater campaign in 1964. By the time Nixon ran in 1968, Democrats' support of King and the civil rights movement both generally and under the Kennedy and Johnson administrations had already turned Southern voters against them though not yet to Nixon's benefit. Wallace carried the South that election with his overtly racist campaign. But those votes were there for Republicans next time, and have been there ever since.
