Well you see.... we really have NO liquid assets, because if we had liquid assets we would actually use them to offset the debt which is irrelevant because the debt is not the debt but really just the net worth because assets really dont count when calculating net worth... well provided you put quotes around the words net worth because that is how we all denote the fact that we aren't really talking about net worth but rather we are talking about the national debt which accounts for the assets already because that is how the national debt is calculated so of course the net worth of the country is -$12 trillion and when I say our country's net worth I am not talking about a song or the actual net worth of the country because our country really means the federal government and not you know the whole country but Mellencamp has a good song and I like it even though that could be what people mean when they say our country in a discussion of net worth which is really the national debt because assets are a part of the national debt calculation if you dont believe me look at the pretty chart with green and red numbers because with the green numbers being assets though we aren't talking about tangible assets or intangible assets and assets only count in net worth if we intend to sell them if we dont intend to sell them then they really dont count in assets I have a headache

What is messed up is that if Dix had simply said that increasing the debt to massive levels will hurt us in the future, then we'd all be agreeing. If he mentioned that Obama ran on Bush spending to incredible levels then he tripled Bush's spending in one bill...

So on. Instead he said that the nation has negative net worth, which is just not true. Hyperbole... sometimes it should just be avoided.

Agreed. Had he just said 'oh, you are right, I made a mistake' when I pointed out his error on net worth, then we could have actually had the discussion he wanted to have to begin with. 4000 posts later and he is still trying to spin his way out of it. I do admit, I am torn as to whether his efforts to avoid admitting he is wrong is more comical or moronic. Tough call.
