Lying on the form to buy a gun saying you are not addicted to drugs is a felony. Some folks actually are serving time for that crime right now. Then they improperly disposed of the gun, his lady friend (his brother's widow he was schtupping) just threw the thing in the department store trash near a school and the thing vanished when she tried to collect it, that's when police got involved. Now here is where some conspiratorial questionable activity enters the picture... the Secret Service stepped in and "took over" things from the local police, even though in 2018 Dementia Joe was not VP and had no SS protections. When asked why they helped one answered, "I don't know, maybe we were asked to do a favor."

(Not very conspiratorial as to SS involvement, there are hundreds of documents talking about it, they kept records, conspiratorial in "who asked for the favor, why did they involve themselves at all in such a thing?").

Agreed. OTOH, money buys a lot of justice and most of those in prison didn't have good lawyers. Other factors are long rap sheets and the intended use of the weapon.

Judge didn’t sink the deal, she questioned part of it, and the two sides couldn’t work out an agreement, which doesn’t mean it is over, rather she gave them extra time to hammer out a consensus

Partly true, but the way I read it, she killed the deal and sent the lawyers to start over again.

Not a lawyer, but my understanding is that part of the problem was the deal may have been unconstitutional since it allowed Hunter to remain under investigation.
