Its the end of their first year of office. Well done. And Reagan did not really become an icon until election year, 1984. Clinton spent the first couple of years reeling from scandals, just like his last couple of years. Bush Sr. saw the Cold War coming to an end, and the Berlin Wall falling down during his first year, so naturally his ratings were high, and Jr. had the bump from 9/11 where he hit like 84%.

And Obama is dealing with the worst economic crisis since the great depression, worse than anything Reagan had, and he's still equal to him. Obama's going to finish office with 99% approval.

Not all postwar presidents came to office equally. Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, both Bushes and Bill Clinton were all elected, so their presidencies all started at the usual time of the year. By contrast, Truman, Lyndon Johnson and Gerald Ford assumed office after the death or resignation of their predecessor. Johnson's approval ratings roughly a year after taking office were around 70 percent, while Truman and Ford were both around 40 percent at that point in their tenure -- a level lower than Obama's today. But because the comparison isn't exact, independent analysts advised us to exclude Truman, Johnson and Ford from our analysis.
So, here are Gallup's December approval and disapproval ratings for all elected presidents since World War II. (For Clinton and George W. Bush, Gallup polled on presidential approval twice a month rather than once a month as previously, so the numbers below reflect an average of the two December scores for those presidents.)

Reagan did nothing to solve the economic crisis. It fixed himself b/c of the Democratic fed chairman, who worked his best DESPITE the exacerbation of the recession Reagan had provided. Reagan was THE WORST PRESIDENT OF TIME.

Reagan's economic record was paltry to anyone who didn't make over a million a year, he extended the rule of the USSR by at least seven years, and he lead us on the path towards us becoming the international evil.
NOt in his first year he did not! But he did do it, with record deficates!

Regan's deficits had nothing to do with his success. His deficits were inflationary and made the Fed chariman's job even harder.
I disagree, it had a lot to do with his success, but thus far, Obama has been able to control inflation, unlike Regan.
Obama inherited an economy that was much worse than what Regan got!

Fed Policy ion coordination with the White House has controled inflation that would likely be out of coutrol by now... Lots of fiscal policy has contributed to keeping the rates low. Timothy Geithner is responsable for lots of that policy.
