Yes, I know it is the Dutch. I understand that we are not them…yet. I also know that there are a number of people here who look longingly over there (To Nordic and European countries) and would love to mold our society after theirs. I’ve had countless conversations with people who have held those places up on how we ought to be with things like health care, gun rights, moral outlook, etc. Personally there are very few ways I’d want the US to be like any of this countries.

And Hollywood might not be a “global power” but if a person thinks they have nothing or even little to do with the shaping of our culture, IMO he is mistaken. So I stand by my second paragraph in the quoted post though I will acknowledge it is only my opinion. People are weary of the “head in the sand” approach to what goes on around them.

Good luck with making the US more European. I know the Lefties push that the most, but the Righties want to make the US look like Russia, China and/or North Korea with a single-leader authoritarian government. People are almost identical genetically. Our main differences are cultural. The United States culture is such that it won't be like the Euros anytime soon, certainly not in my lifetime. The main reason being primarily self-segregation; the malcontents who left Europe to forge a new life in the Americas are of a different character than those who stayed home where it was safe. There are other factors, such as slavery, indentured servitude, orders from Euro government, etc, but most European immigrants came here by choice.

IMO, that's akin to taking a large group of people and offering them a choice of a free ride on a rollercoaster or the merry-go-round. Those who choose the rollercoaster are going to be different characters, as a group, than those who choose the merry-go-round. Divide them by an ocean and they'll create two different cultures.

Re Hollywood; people who support freedom and free will know they can change the channel. People who support authoritarians believe they need to shut down any opposition because they believe they know what is best for everyone else.
