More democrats flipping to the GOP

Fed-up Dem flees to GOP after her party 'crucified' her over key issue: They're 'abusing' Black voters

Oooooh! You got one! One Republican in Georgia - woo hoo! <sarcastic clapping>. Yeah, we all remember all the southern Democrats switching parties in the 60's because they didn't want their little white kids going to school with "the blacks". Anyway - enjoy the "victory" and remember how many legislatures courts and governorships when from red to blue in '22. LOL.

Ah, but we flipped the Senate in GA in '22 and that's not changing for 6 years. Ruh Roh! I think it's looking fine for the Dems.

You need to observe trends.

If democrats are beginning to flip to the GOP, while in office, that should be very worrying to the DNC.

While it does happen, two in one state is not insignificant.

You may have flipped the state in 22 but 24 is right around the corner and it's not looking like you will keep a grasp on it.

I have observed the trends. The trends being: Republicans have lost the popular vote in 7 out of the last 8 presidential elections. Republicans lost the presidency in 2020, the Senate in 2022 and pretty much all special elections in off years. The Democrats are fine.

Our presidential elections are not decided by popular vote, the democrats already had the senate at the time of the 2022 elections so we didn't lose it however we did pick up seats.

We took the house.

And we won the majority of governorships up for election in 2022.

Not sure how you can consider that a win.

I don't know how it works in other states, but here in Texas, the taxes that are collected in one school district are spent in that school district!

here in Michigan the schools receive state and federal funding in addition to property taxes........I wonder why the federal government refuses to give Texas the same funding they give the other 49 states........
again, if a school is only teaching 500 students why should they receive the funding to teach 1000?....

And getting better with each abortion ban that is passed.

A: Dems. flipped 3 governor seats in '22. Republicans flipped 1.

B:'22 was supposed to be a Red wave. Reps. flipped the House due to NY gerrymandering, which will be corrected in two years.

I was just discussing the way Texas distributes it's property taxes. Yes, of course Texas Public Schools get Federal and State funding as well.

Not sure what else you are asking here. Texas State funding is based on a per student basis, and it has to do with attendance. If a student misses a day of class, the school district is not paid.

I don't have any problem with Private Schools.

It's a luxury, that if you can afford it, by all means put your kids where you feel they have their best shot!

But don't rob the Public School System to do it!

I swear, only Republitards could think of such a crazy self-centered half-baked reckless and irresponsible idea!

Louisiana has had the stupid voucher thing for years. It's probably no coincidence that their educational system is among the poorest in the nation. On the previous forum where I posted, there was a RW woman who was a h.s. English teacher in the NOLA area public school system. She said it was a nightmare. She would get students who transferred in from one of those private "schools" whose reading and writing abilities were at elementary school levels. She also said that people would open up little store front "schools" in a strip mall or some other cheapo place, take the voucher money, and "go out of business" a few weeks later, absconding with all that money. There was no requirement for "teachers" in these "schools" to have the proper education; all that was needed was a teaching certificate.

Republicans value education like we normal people value rabid rats.

It's what happens in the poorer Southern Red States where the legislative branch is totally being controlled by Republicans!

They have been deliberately driving Public Schools into the ground for the last 25 years by under-funding them and cheating them out of money everywhere they can.

School Vouchers is a tool they use to accomplish this! It's called White Supremacy for short!

My three children spent 42 school years in a private school. They all have college degrees. Hank Aaron and Jimmy Carter sent their children to our school.

I do not want one penny of government money spent on private schools. That would allow the government to control them.

You could at least thank us for paying double school taxes (the largest part of property taxes) that we never benefited from.

Once they crawled into bed with the evangelistas, the Reichwingers have been eager to shunt kids into private (i.e., faith-based) schools. Some are good, a lot are not. Mr. Owl's sister/husband are RW fundies. They had had their son in various Xtian private schools till he got to h.s. He was failing badly and needed help, but special ed teachers and IEPs were not available. These were schools in rural Illinois, rural Indiana, and worst of all -- rural Louisiana. They moved to Kansas a couple of years ago for a job transfer. Now the young man is flourishing in a suburban public school in Manhattan, KS. He even got to go on a school trip to Germany in June. He's in track and field (not available at those private schools) and on the honor roll.

I wonder how many other kids are being poorly educated due to this nonsense.

Either do I, since most of them any more are religious in nature, not just the parochial schools anymore.

That is great Earl! You are fortunate to be able to afford that for your children! And I agree with you! :good4u:

One of my best friends went through a divorce back in the 80's, and instead of paying child support, he made a deal with his ex and the judge to pay for his daughters private school. He got this crazy idea while listening to the Rush Limbaugh hour- every day for all his life!

Well, of course that was kind of an over-commitment as he ended up spending more money than he ever would have if he would have just done the norm and paid his child support. I mean, he lived like a pauper to put his kids through private school! Sort of like biting off his own nose to spite his face kind of thing! He made decent money and had a good career.

But his daughters are friends of my children, and they basically grew up together. The private school was an all girls school, and my children said that his daughters were always complaining about not being normal and having to be separated from boys in school and things.

When they graduated High School they went a little boy crazy and well, they experienced a lot of things that were not good.

But, today, they are fine. It all worked out and they are great little mommies today with some great kids of their own.

And their children go to public schools. And I know why- without having to go into any detail!
