An excellent mystery, Scooby! I'll help! I am a certified "old geezer" (but not demented...yet). Back when I joined the military, a woman in uniform was a rare sight (1975). Rarer still in an aircraft maintenance hangar. Youth, novelty and testosterone combined to create the most toxic atmosphere of verbal sexual harassment I had ever seen. It really shocked me, and I was already a pretty raw cur of a young man at that time, still, I never have liked seeing women harmed in any way.
Well, characteristic of the military, we were almost immediately carpet bombed with representatives of what was to become D.E.O.M.I. (

And to make a long story short, orders were promulgated, mandatory classes were conducted ad nauseam (still are), and some rather draconian punishments were meted out to the worst offenders. Virtually overnight, the harassment disappeared. Except in private, we just stopped talking about women as sexual objects at all and everyone pretty much relaxed. We were told by these people that they were not so naive as to believe they could control all speech and thought, or that the whole problem had been solved, but we COULD be held responsible for our actions in public and in the workplace.
The key concept in this situation was, someone in authority told us to STFU. I suppose this is a difficult thing for the civilian community to accept, because they have no discipline, and there are no consequences for their actions. So, mystery solved. None of us old geezers, demented or not, give a fat rat’s ass what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes.
Just stop talking about it especially around children. I am not optimistic that the deviant community is capable of doing this even in their own self interest.
