Why does it matter where it happens?

for two reasons.....
1) the false claim was made that most of them occurred in red states where gun laws were weak...
2) the claim was made that we needed stronger gun laws even though nearly all the shootings occurred where the gun laws were the strongest....

obviously those who are prepared to ignore laws which already make it illegal to murder aren't going to give a fuck about laws making it illegal to have a gun....
