Tesla (TSLA) released its second quarter production and delivery numbers on Sunday, easily beating expectations as the effects of the electric-vehicle maker’s price cuts are boosting sales.

For the quarter, Tesla reported global production of 479,700 units with deliveries of 466,140. The delivery figure easily topped Wall Street consensus estimates of 448,599 units, as well as the prior quarter’s total of 422,875. Both production and delivery totals for the second quarter were all-time records for Tesla.

Analysts and investors focus more on delivery totals because they most closely track sales totals, which Tesla does not release. Breaking down delivery totals, Tesla delivered 446,915 Model 3 and Model Ys and 19,225 higher-priced Model S and Model X vehicles. The company also said 5% of its sales were subject to lease accounting.

Tesla’s second quarter delivery beat indicates the company’s price cuts are continuing to boost sales both in the US and abroad.

Toyota develops battery breakthrough in potential boost for electric cars

Japanese firm develops a solid-state battery with a range of 745 miles that charges in 10 minutes
06:16 EDT Tuesday, 04 July 2023

Toyota has made a technological breakthrough that will allow it to halve the weight, size and cost of batteries, in what could herald a major advance for electric vehicles.
The world’s second largest carmaker was already pursuing a plan to roll out cars with advanced solid-state batteries, which offer benefits compared with liquid-based batteries, by 2025.
On Tuesday, the Japanese company said it had simplified production of the material used to make them, hailing the discovery as a significant leap forward that could dramatically cut charging times and increase driving range.
“For both our liquid and our solid-state batteries, we are aiming to drastically change the situation where current batteries are too big, heavy and expensive,” said Keiji Kaita, president of the Japanese auto firm’s research and development centre for carbon neutrality. “In terms of potential, we will aim to halve all of these factors.”
David Bailey, a professor of business economics at the University of Birmingham, said that if Toyota’s claims were founded, it could be a landmark moment for the future of electric cars.
“Often there are breakthroughs at the prototype stage but then scaling it up is difficult,” he said. “If it is a genuine breakthrough it could be a gamechanger, very much the holy grail of battery vehicles.”

Kaita said the company had developed ways to make batteries more durable and believed it could now make a solid-state battery with a range of 1,200km (745 miles) that could charge in 10 minutes or less.
The company expects to be able to manufacture solid-state batteries for use in electric vehicles as soon as 2027, according to the Financial Times, which first reported on Toyota’s claimed breakthrough.
Solid-state batteries have been widely seen as a potential gamechanger for electric vehicles, promising to reduce charging times, increase capacity and reduce the fire risk associated with lithium-ion batteries, which use a liquid electrolyte.
However, solid-state batteries have typically been harder and costlier to make, limiting their commercial application.
Toyota said it believed it could simplify the production process, potentially making solid-state batteries easier to produce than lithium-ion ones.

Those of us pushing against a total conversion over to EVs before the infrastructure and technology is ready

Kinda arrogant of you to think you speak for all of 'those of us', don't you think? Here's a clue for you, sweetheart: you don't.

And what makes you think you're smart enough to know if the infrastructure and technology is ready? Based on the ignorance of all your posts, I doubt very seriously you are. I mean, the CEOs of all the major Auto companies seem to think we are. So I'd put my money on them over a MAGA troll on an obscure political online forum.

And once again, who's 'them'?
"we only have a problem with them forcing it on everyone"

Tesla continues to build one of the shittest cars on the road. Their quality sucks like a Kirby vacuum cleaner.

So, go cry in your diapers. EV's suck and Tesla is the worst of the lot when it comes to quality. It's the Yugo of EV's.

How does it feel to be one of the most hopelessly stupid posters on this site?

Do you need me to post all the ICE vehicle manufacturers who went bankrupt along the road before the Big 3 emerged, along with a handful of other SUCCESSFUL manufacturers? DO you think that number is the 10's or Dozens or hundreds or more?

Only you read a story like that Toyota breakthru and wonder why Toyota would pursue such 'wishcasting' of something not yet proven or developed. Only you do not understand that ALL breakthroughs typically come from expiremental pursuit, with lots of failures before success is found.

Only you are stupid enough to think pointing at those who fail is somehow an indictment of the science succeeding.

We have others on this site who pretend conservatards are not anti progress in science or improvements, and i will always cite you as proof they are wrong.

If you do not get paid by Tesla, why are most of your posts promoting their products?

Because I think they're a great car that everyone would benefit buying and they would help the environment.
Did you see during the COVID shutdowns when they shut down big cities in China and India how the smog problem miraculously disappeared?
That would be permanent with EVs. Wouldn't that be great?

This is a great place to not forget that the WEF Overlords have been very clear that most people will not be allowed to have even an electric car....you might call a car if you have enough digital currency and social credit points and if your purpose has been approved, but for the most part you will need to find some other way to get around that is approved my your masters.
