Indiana Jones and the Lackluster Box Office

Texas is cheaper, but agree that it is probably total cost for two with snacks and drinks.

3D and IMAX both help make movies an "experience". The last movie I saw in the theater was "Gravity". Great in IMAX. Not sure if we saw it in 3D. I do remember the depth of field in orbit.

Most movies are better at home on a big screen tv. :)

Avatar TWOW was the first movie I've seen in a Theater in years - since my kids were teens. Any movie I have the patience to sit through now I see on one of the streaming platforms - and if you're like me - you can't watch the whole thing in one sitting so it's convenient to be able to come back later and pick up where you left off

...less annoyance from idiots that can't be thrown out too. :)

Oh! And HE10 had a thread on Avatar II - he said he was going to watch it alone - his exact words were something like, "the slut won't be joining me..". So the $50 was for just him. I think he's either delusional or exaggerating about the movie cost. Probably more delusional.

I have no doubt #10 has "issues". Heavy self-medication is just one of them.

I like dialog driven films more than action-adventure.
A little lady skin doesn't hurt, either, but forget that I even mentioned it.

My type of cinematic entertainment isn't in fashion.
We're in a "popcorn movie" era right now, not a "film" era.
I suppose it makes sense since the releases aren't on actual film reels anymore.

Maybe if they made Indiana Jones black and/or gay, there'd be more talk about it?

Although audiences like it, not enough are buying tickets. Maybe it needs more trannies and gays? LOL

Indiana Jones and the Lackluster Box Office
"The Dial of Destiny" landed a $24 million opening day -- not exactly a great tone-setter for a blockbuster that cost $295 million to produce.
$20/ticket, no soda or popcorn.

Why would anyone go to a theater, when today's T.V.s have amazing picture quality and sound?

Kids movies do well because it's a day out with the kids. I think theaters are dead.

We've got an app. that gives us new releases, often on the day they hit the theaters.
I'm not much of a movie person, but every so often there's something worth seeing

I came within hours of making a very rare trip to the theater to see Avatar 2 on baby Imax, which would have been a $50+ outing. After I watched it for free on my tv I knew that I dodged a bullet.....that would have pissed me off.

You didn't watch it for "free on your TV." It's been available via streaming since March, but certainly not for free.

I saw it twice at the theater, a rarity for me since I'm not much of a movie buff and even less of a theater buff. It was worth it. But you're worthless so wouldn't know. lol

It's a very long weekend, we'll see what the box office looks like. We're going tomorrow.

Looking forward to your review. Love the earlier Indy movies. Did not like the last one at all. Please let me know what you think and if it's worth going to.

I saw Avatar II TWOW back in TX in 3D. The ticket cost me $10 (matinee). I don't know where HE10 is getting the $50 cost - perhaps he considers spending $40 in junk food at the concession stand part of the normal cost of seeing a movie? Anyway for the $10, it was worth it. I liked the special effects. The story was kind of a theft of the Star Trek IV The Voyage Home + Aquaman plots - but again - for $10, I felt I received more than my money's worth.

That's a great amateur review of the movie... thanks! I saw it twice (at the same price) at the theater. IMO the first movie was the best mostly because the story line and characters and setting and amazing videography and special effects were new, although it's easily argued that the plot was borrowed from multiple sources. The second one lacked the amazing intro to Pandora and its people and its beauty, but made up for it in other ways. It's lovely to go to a show and even though you're aware of the cliches and contradictions and plot flubs, its sheer beauty sweeps you away into another world for a few hours.
