For the head of admissions at a medical school, Dr. Mark Henderson is pretty blunt when sizing up the profession.

“Mostly rich kids get to go to medical school,” he said.

In his role at the medical school at the University of California, Davis, Dr. Henderson has tried to change that, developing an unorthodox tool to evaluate applicants: the socioeconomic disadvantage scale, or S.E.D.

The scale rates every applicant from zero to 99, taking into account their life circumstances, such as family income and parental education. Admissions decisions are based on that score, combined with the usual portfolio of grades, test scores, recommendations, essays and interviews.

Medical schools have gone WOKE, if you are a white guy expect to have problems getting in unless you claim to be trans.

NYT's, the Pravda of the WOKE Revolution.

More than half of medical students come from families in the top 20 percent of income, while only 4 percent come from those in the bottom 20 percent, according to data from the American Association of Medical Colleges.

Why should a potential student be denied acceptance because their parents were not poor?

What in the hell does that have to do with the student’s performance?

More stupid woke shit.

Children of doctors are 24 times more likely to become doctors than their peers, according to the American Medical Association. It’s hard to know why the profession passes down from generation to generation, but the statistic drove the association to adopt a policy opposing legacy preferences in admissions.

That’s a staggering economic gap between medical students and the general public,” said Dr. Henderson, who comes from a working-class upbringing and now serves as associate dean of admissions.

Medical school should be tuition free like the military academies.
The graduates would then be committed to working ten years for the National Health Service before going into private practice.

Of course, dumb motherfuckers that we are, we don't have a National Health Service.

Ever thought of moving out of the US? We wouldn't miss you.

Leaders in medicine say training more Black and Hispanic doctors could help bridge the vast divides in American health care. Research shows that doctors from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are more likely to work in primary care or in locales where doctors are scarce.

A lot of doctors send their kids to medical school. My dad was a mechanic however. As far as I know the vast majority of people in my class EARNED their way into medical school however.

Cuba trains American medical students — to work in US

The offer originated last year after Castro met with the US Congressional Black Caucus. Benny Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi, complained of the high infant mortality rate and lack of doctors in his district.

Castro responded by offering to educate students from low-income American families who agreed to return to their communities after the 6 years of training. Cuba is paying all costs save for the students' airfare.

Meet the Americans Studying Medicine on the Cuban Government’s Dime

The Cuban government has been paying Americans through a little known program to study medicine in order to return to the United States and serve underprivileged communities.
By Alan Macleod, MPN —

It’s a medical school like no other: the largest of its kind in the world. The Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Havana, Cuba hosts students from well over 100 countries and every year, dozens of American students are paid to go there to train as doctors. Paid, that is, by the Cuban government on the proviso that they return to the U.S. and serve underprivileged communities. Generally, students come from underprivileged backgrounds themselves and would not have been able to attend medical school in the U.S. for financial reasons. The average cost of in-state training at am American public college runs to nearly $35,000 per year, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges, with private universities charging well over $50,000. Women and people of color make up the clear majority of applicants.

There is CURRENTLY a program that will pay for medical school if you agree to work at the Native American health service for three years. I new people that went that route.

I've had similar thoughts about all of the foreign students going to med school here, graduating, and then setting up practice here!

How bad do they want to do that?

I think we may be onto something here!
