I suppose I can argue that I'm being punished for getting two advanced degrees while the rest of the louts were drinking beer and working for minimum wage, since I then had to pay more in taxes than they made in a year. I'm sure you can relate.

We tend to reward irresponsibility in this country. See: Covid. I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying that at the end of the day, I'm not willing to cut off my nose to spite my face.

Making the beer-drinking louts pay for another person's college education is punishment for them. What's next? Make them pay for other people's kids too?

I could list hundreds of examples. One of my favorites is the guy who buys the bare bones health insurance policy and then goes broke when his lack of exercise and high sugar high fat diet leads to some chronic condition. So I get to pay for his healthcare. Or Walmart, who profits off of low wage workers who have to have government assistance. You get the idea. It's the way things are. I want a functioning economy, and the wage/wealth gap is unsustainable. Something has to give.

I'm good with letting nature run its course. This is why the precedent of giving free handouts is a bad fucking idea. Better to help but not carry. In the case of the undedicated, obese loser, they shouldn't be expecting you and me to pay.

The business issue has different solutions than the individual one. Still, no free handouts. When both Bush and Obama passed out bailouts, they should have come with better strings attached.

Look at the billions lost in the COVID bailouts? IMO, it's always a bad idea to just give away money.

He released his tax return when running and he made a little over 20 million and his tax rate was 13%. His secretary made 75k and paid a rate nearly twice that. The average income in the US is about 50-70K. If you work for 50 years making $70,000 that is 50 x 75,000 = $3,500,000 or less than 20% of what Romney made in 1 year.
