“The Supreme Court’s rejection on Friday of President Biden’s student debt relief plan instantly unravels one of the president’s signature efforts and ratchets up the pressure on him to find a new way to make good on a promise to a key constituency as the 2024 presidential campaign gets underway.”

It’s a shame we can bail out banks and Wall Street, forgive PPP loans to the rich, but can’t help college students.
Nobody has ever explained to me why the kid who went to vocational school and paid for it now has to pay for the guy making more money than he does. Or the guy who graduated high school and didn't go into college, worked for 10 years to get to a level where he pays taxes now rather than is a net receiver... why should he have to pay for the guy who elected to go to college?
The reason you can forgive PPP loans is because congress voted for that allocation of funds. Had pResident Briben (patent pending, patent pending, patent pending!) wanted to pay for these things he should have had congress pass something when he had control of both houses. The SCOTUS simply said he had no authority to just pay for things without congress allocating the money or specifying that he had that power in the law.
To me this is like democrats only wishing for changes in the immigration laws only when republicans have control of one or both of the houses. You had control, neither of these were a priority for you when you had control of both houses but "suddenly" it becomes the talking point priority for the words that spill out of your mouths when republicans have control of one or both of the houses of congress.
