Former President Donald Trump claimed on Saturday that he had the "absolute right" to keep documents after leaving the White House but legal experts say that defense won't hold up in court.

Trump, who pleaded not guilty earlier this month to 37 charges related to his handling of classified documents, has repeatedly claimed that he had the right to take the documents under the Presidential Records Act, which legal experts have refuted.

Trump reiterated his defense during a speech at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's annual conference on Saturday.

"Whatever documents a president decides to take with him, he has the absolute right to take them," Trump claimed.

"He has the absolute right to keep them or he can give them back to NARA if he wants, he talks to them like we were doing and he can do that if he wants," he added, referring to the National Archives and Records Administration.

"That's the law and it couldn't be more clear."

There was never any doubt but that the so-called justice system would be successfully weaponized to take out Trump....I said so 2.5 years ago.

Apparently, Trump seems to think that he can decree whatever law that he wants, when, where, and how

What time does it start?

It is awesome that Trump is every bit as dumb as his supporters who keep telling him this and that he ignores his lawyers who keep telling him that is not accurate or true.

Trump increasingly, doubling and tripling down on this, is denying his lawyers the ability to make any other defense, due to his statements here countering the points of their desired defenses.

Please oh please let Trump keep listening to the dumbest around him. Add Marjorie Greene and Boebert and the Trumps on this forum to his advisory reading list.

Trump went 0 and 60 in court cases over 'Stolen Election' listening to MagaDerps, but did not care as he raised more money than the court cases cost him, so the result was a net profit for him. I hope he keeps looking at this case in the same way. I hope he keeps listening to the derps and speaks out loudly, so all his comments can be taken as evidence.

That "defense" is Trump talking out of school because the lawyers can't get him to shut up. It won't be heard in the courtroom.
