sub's hull was made with carbon fiber from Boeing that was past its airplane shelf li

There is no possible way you would be able to convince me to enter a capsule you were going to seal and where I had no possible way to open the capsule should we have an emergency and had to surface. Those inside just sat there, helpless... waiting for someone to come get them... like an ancient astronaut.

Agreed. Explosive bolts with multiple safeties would be more comforting.

No, I disagree. Professional unions, like trades ones today ensure their members meet certain standards that companies can rely on for good workmanship. They're more about their members having a good career and retirement now than fighting corporate management. Labor unions simply take their member's dues and play politics. This sort of union leader can be every bit as bad as bad management.

For example, I have several friends that work at Raytheon. None of them are currently in the union, most having quit after first joining. One related to me that the union leader wanted to make himself a name with the national leadership to get higher up in the union ranks. So, he called a strike during regular contract negotiations where Raytheon had given the union virtually everything they wanted in it. He had the union strike just so he could show the national leaders he could be a real asshole with corporate management.

I know of another case here locally where the local leader was stealing dues and using them for personal gain.

So, there can be times and places where a union is needed, and there are some good unions out there. But there are ones that aren't always working in the best interest of their members.

My position is still, join if you want, don't join if you don't want to. You should have the choice, and be able to work for a company of your choice. NO CLOSED SHOPS. By the way, the worst sort of unions, and many Democrat politicians love closed shops. They want to force membership to maximize dues taken in for political gain and purposes. They don't give a shit about their members.

Disagreed with your assessment since I've been in two airline unions. Yes, there's politics, which I shied away from in favor of Safety....which is why I know you are talking out of your ass when you said unions only care about safety if there's profit in it.

They pretty much are.

Nope. It is really true.

International 'law' is nothing but treaty agreements. Stop spamming.

This has nothing to do with international law. If you were to murder someone in international waters, you would still be charged with murder. You would be extradited back to the US, because there is no way most nations would harbor you. Look at all the times crimes have been committed in international waters in the modern era. Not once did the person get away with it.

You wouldn't want to open the door at that depth. The human body struggles at 100 feet. At 10,000 feet, opening the door would result in instant death.

You blame Trump for everything under the sun. Fact is, everything was cheaper 4 years ago. Energy, food, clothes, you name it.

I will be at the polls. Count on it.[/QUOTE

And I will be there to personally cancel out your vote with mine! But thanks!

He's talking about popping to the surface then suffocating because the sub can't be located in time with all exits bolted shut.

Hence the portion of the sentence that said, "and we had to surface"...

I fully comprehend water pressure, another reason I would not enter that submarine... The glass window was rated to 1300 meters, they were taking it down a bit over 3000 meters... Their ballast "tanks" were leftovers, their controller was a game controller for an xbox... The whole danged thing was held together by bailing wire and pop rivets, it's like they hired the designer of the Yugo and a classroom full of teenagers to "certify" its safety.

No way I would have gone on that submarine, even if they paid me to do it, let alone pay $250,000 to go... Nope.

You'd think with the kind of money the passengers had, they'd have done more research on it. What a shyster this guy was.

Free Will. It's easy to Monday Morning Quarterback.

Would you go up on the Bezos or Musk rocket? I would...if it was free, LOL, but I could just as easily end up scattering my ashes over half of America.

This happens when folks overestimate the quality of a product simply because of its price. For example there is no reason that a purse should cost as much as a year's salary for anyone in the US, but at times Versace will charge that much and some folks will pay it because they believe it must be that much better and that it shows that they themselves are valuable because look, they have a $24,000 purse that cannot even fit their wallet and keys at the same time.

However, folks like me that are attracted to intelligence would immediately disregard their "value" as level "idiot" and have no interest in them as people. This is also one of the reasons that the political opinions of most actors should immediately go into file thirteen.

There's a factor of exclusivity to consider here. Exclusivity is why Versace can charge a small fortune for a purse. It's why Ferrari charges a fortune for a car, at least in part. This sub is the same way. It's in part an exclusive thing to get to go on it for a ride to the Titanic.

It doesn't make something better in quality or a smart move to pay for. It gives the buyer status of having something others don't that raises their social standing in the eyes of those that keep score of such things--no small portion of the population either...

It was a dumb decision. No Monday morning quarterbacking. Anyone who did research would have known it was shoddily and cheaply assembled. A bargain basement deal isn't a good idea when traveling the ocean floor. I guess this is Natural Selection.

IIRC, it was the adventure of a lifetime for the first 21 trips....the 22nd one too. LOL

So you wouldn't go up in one of the rockets? What about airlines, Lig? Do you have concerns about traveling by air? Bus? Car?

I'd prefer it in the woods somewhere.

It's amazing how these big talkers cower in fear because someone like you says they will defend their home and family. It's just chest pounding by these twits. They don't even have the balls or the expertise enough to even handle a gun.

Do you have a gun, Spanky? Even if you are illegal to own one?

Only delusional fuckwits think anyone on this thread was threatening to break into another's home, dumbass. Are you sure all that jizz you get from your "friends" isn't going to your brain?

I prefer pilots who DO NOT have to crash land their airplanes.
