Number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during recession

Jessica Klement, government affairs director for the Federal Managers Association, says the federal workforce is highly paid because the government employs skilled people such as scientists, physicians and lawyers. She says federal employees make 26% less than private workers for comparable jobs.

USA TODAY analyzed the Office of Personnel Management's database that tracks salaries of more than 2 million federal workers. Excluded from OPM's data: the White House, Congress, the Postal Service, intelligence agencies and uniformed military personnel.

The growth in six-figure salaries has pushed the average federal worker's pay to $71,206, compared with $40,331 in the private sector.

wow...you have a few examples as compared to my overwhelming evidence that says your tiny example is shit compared to realty...

keep your head in sand lemming

And State workers earn less then private workers do, for comparable jobs.
It's the trade off for job security and a little better benefits.

Me! Me! Me!

One project specifically it was a 60-story residential tower at the base of the Bay Bridge. Had to work with the city of san francisco from the approval process up through its completion. Had to deal with the planning commission and board of supervisors. While we need a government structure in place it doesn't stop me from hating those slimy fucking crooked politicians and their aides. They were scum. Fuck them. We got our building up but they ass raped us because they could.

Please feel free to ask me how I really feel about them.

Wow-ee, awesome. I could stand living there, how about you?

And the CEOs of the companies who ran our shit right into the ground made how much?

How much do their office staff make?

You guys refuse to pay the people who work for the government what they are worth and then make all sorts of excuses for the people who fucked us.

400 times the pay of an average worker and profits that have raised like rocket ships and you guys defended them.

WTF do you insist anyone who works for the gov should starve and anyone who works for the assraping corps should have NO limits.

Because you are a fool who has ingrained in their heads that the government is bad and the corps are perfect.

Your perfect heros were given carte blanc and they fucked everything up, government saved them.

Now you want to repete the cycle?

Exactly right, and now these same whiners will complain because the Treasury Dept. is going to cap executive salaries of those who got bailouts.

Haha, me too... if I could afford it!!! :)

Yeah, it's an awesome building. I believe it is the tallest residential building in the U.S. west of the Mississippi. It was really cool to work on especially being a part of it when it was going through the planning stages to approval and then to being built.

Sorry for bragging about the hometown but if you haven't already check out some of the views if you click on view the condominiums.

I'll admit to not being a fan of it. Now I know these CEO's and workers scored fat bonuses in the mid 2000's as a reward for taking excessive risk and I'm glad to see some of them got fired or lost their company like Stan O'Neil, Dick Fuld, Jimmie Cayne etc. But I still don't like the idea of government dictating wages. In the big picture and in the long run it is not healthy.

I looked at every link on the site. Wish they would have shown some interiors. Fantastic!

The article doesn't really make it clear. My interpretation is that there are far more low paying jobs in the private sector that are not available in the federal government so that while it is possible to have comparable federal jobs pay less than their private sector counterparts because there are so many low paying private sector jobs it brings the overall private sector average down below the federal average.

Considering that Walmart and MacDonald's are among the largest employers and with similar wages paid by others in those industries and others, you are, no doubt, right. However, the use of those numbers as in Post 1, makes good headlines unless all the facts are included.
