What is woke about the lil mermaid?

Here is part of the problem, you are treating "blacks" as if they are all exactly alike and all believe the same thing.. it shows your stupidity.

Oh right like Brandon who thinks you arent even black if you don't support him????.? How stupid are you? You're 5 brandons stupid

So what you're telling us is even if reparations are paid the bitching won't stop. So I have a question for you, why the fuck should reparations ever be paid?

“So what you’re telling us is…“, that’s always a prelude to one of your lies.

If the complaint is that black actors should not play Disney characters that were never previously depicted as black, then I have to assume that outrage against Will Smith playing Aladdin must have been on par with Halle Bailey playing Ariel.

I think that you still don't understand the issue here, or possibly you're purposely mischaracterizing it to bolster your argument that criticism of TLM is based on some anti-black sentiment.

I can't speak for others, but that is not the case with me, nor is what you described the argument I'm trying to make.

I don't care what race an actor is in most roles. I'll admit that casting a dark skinned black woman in the part of Anne Boleyn as the BBC recently did strained credulity a little bit, but it's not something I would grind my gears over.

OTOH, I wouldn't watch it either.

Why?

For the same reason I believe Disney cast who'zhsa-ma-what'sit in TLM... it's just another example of in-your-face wokeism that - all good vs bad value judgements aside - I'm just sick and tired of having constantly hammered into my skull.

IOW.... as I have said so many times in this thread I can't understand why I have to explain it again.... It's got nothing to do with WHO played the part... It's got to do with WHY she was chosen for the part.

I'm not saying she's not a good actor. I am assuming that she, like so many others, is a fine actor.

What I'm saying is that in an act of woke PR pandering, appeasement and playing to a current popular social trend, Disney cast her BECAUSE she is a POC, rather than despite her being one.

It is DISNEY'S executives who I am being critical of, not her or her ethnicity or her ability, etc, etc.

Will Smith as Aladdin BTW, actually makes more sense than Robin Williams who, as a white guy being cast as a Arab, was always a bit puzzling to me, but I figured he was cast for his personality and comedic style and delivery, etc.

Will Smith is boring, but physically more suited to the part.

I think they should have recast Chris Rock in the role. And not because of the slap. Chris Rock can read the telephone book and make people laugh.

Will Smith is just riding the coattails of his Fresh Prince days.

Okay, let me get this straight: casting black men in traditionally white roles is okay but casting black women in traditionally white roles is "woke".

To be perfectly honest, that's silly.

Obviously you didn't have a problem when Morgan Freeman was cast in 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves or....wait for it....as God in 2007's "Evan Almighty". LOL

Ok i'll type slowly for you

If paying reparations won't stop the pissing and moaning about racism, why should anyone bother to pay reparations?

If reparations were ever to be paid, it would not be done in order to stop complaining, it would be done to address an injustice.

Film Critics and More React in Shock and Disbelief to Will Smith’s ‘Aladdin’ Genie

Aladdin backlash against Will Smith's Genie was unexpected, says producer

It's interesting though that the "outrage" was more to do with him not being blue and not being Robin Williams, than it was about him not being a white actor. Guess they hadn't yet fired up the Woke Hate Machine yet.

Anyone who doesn't join in your woke fellatio is a hater and a bigot.

My God, your thought process must work on the same level as a 5th grader's.

Throwing money at people is not a solution. That theory was disproved by LBJ's "great society". Also consider Lottery winners.

What is needed is to invest money in infrastructure around the poor areas of the US; schools and factories for jobs. Medical facilities to treat lacerations, broken bones and give vaccinations. Schools would both be well supported for kids but also at night for continuing education.

https://www.businessinsider.com/winning-powerball-lottery-happiness-2017-8
research indicates that winning the lottery doesn't make people happier in the long term. Contrary to popular belief, however, it doesn't seem to make people more likely to go on spending sprees that leave them broken and unhappy either.

Winners mostly report ending up about as happy as they were before winning.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/...d-winning-the-lottery-really-change-your-life
Lottery Winners Are Still Themselves — Only Richer

In “Becoming a Winner But Staying the Same: Identities and Consumption of Lottery Winners” (2011), Bengt Larsson found that, contrary to the myth of lottery winners escaping current circumstances and becoming “someone else somewhere else,” in reality lottery winners generally remain the same — except for indulging in higher levels of consumption.[iii] Larsson concluded that receiving large winnings is generally accompanied with an effort to maintain identity and social relationships.

I agree, and did not argue differently.

I think it is sheer speculation to assume Disney management sat in a board room meeting and decided to run their business as a political capitulation to woke.

Will Smith and Halle Bailey are top tier, award winning stars in the entertainment industry.

Casting actors/entertainers in a Disney film who are household names, at least to Gen X, millennials, and Gen Z, is a sound business decision.
