"American" is only a paper status, not a category of people.
We're already a mixed bag of seriously incompatible people, always have been, and always will be.
Citizenship is a mere technicality; it's not blood.
After my kids are gone, only three generations of my family will have been born and lived in America.
Historically, we won't have been very highly invested.
History will consider us an Italian family that lived here for a while. I'm very content with that.
