I toured a plantation that was a black owned plantation in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana named the Melrose. The black woman, Marie Therese Coincoin, that owned it also owned slaves.

They used to be, and Republicans were the liberals.

Lincoln led the federal army against the Southern states. The Southern states have always been the conservative voters.

Anthony Johnson was an African-American man who lived in the British colony of Virginia in the 17th century and was a slave owner.

One of the first African-Americans known to have owned slaves in the British colonies in North America, he was one of the first people of his race to do so.

Johnson was himself a liberated indentured servant who had gone on to become a prosperous farmer in Virginia after serving as an enslaved laborer in the past.He was the owner of a plantation as well as other slaves, and he is remembered for a legal case in which he successfully petitioned to have one of his former indentured workers, a white man called John Casor, declared his lifetime slave. This case gained him notoriety, and he is remembered today.
