How solar farms took over the California desert: ‘An oasis has become a dead sea’

Visible from the I-10 highway, amid the parched plains and sun-baked mountains, it is an improbable sight: a deep blue slick stretching for miles across the Chuckwalla Valley, forming an endless glistening mirror.

But something’s not quite right. Closer up, the water’s edge appears blocky and pixelated, with the look of a low-res computer rendering, while its surface is sculpted in orderly geometric ridges, like frozen waves. “We had a guy pull in the other day towing a big boat,” says Don Sneddon, a local resident. “He asked us how to get to the launch ramp to the lake. I don’t think he realized he was looking at a lake of solar panels.”

And, California has the highest electricity prices in the nation, the least stable grid, and is quickly turning into a turd world state when it comes to energy. Ah, the benefits that come with adopting radical leftist politics...

I know a guy on another website that lives in California that tries to goad me over Texas grid problems. He gets huffy when I point out the deficiencies in California's energy situation. :dunno:
 
TVA doesn't get taxpayer funding; rather, their revenues come from sales of electricity. TVA also provides flood control, navigation, and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and regional governments with their economic development efforts.

The California energy loons need to go to Tennessee to see how to manage their energy sources.

California is only going to get worse. If Diablo Canyon closes they're fucked. Solar and wind cannot and will not supply the power they need. Germany, the leader in that nonsense is starting to wake up and realize how pathetically bad solar in particular is and recognize that it's not the future of energy production.
