DeSantis: Weakling in Superman Costume

"Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida could have made his presidential campaign announcement in some idyllic seaside park, surrounded by the wholesome families he’s trying to defend from subversive books and the Walt Disney Company. Instead, he did it in a glitchy audio feed with a socially awkward billionaire. Even if the Twitter rollout had worked smoothly — which it definitely did not — it would have been a debacle.

"The technological failures are, understandably, dominating the headlines. They were humiliating for everyone involved, making the campaign look amateurish and undermining Elon Musk’s claims that firing most of Twitter’s work force hasn’t impaired the platform. But behind these unforced errors lie deeper failures of political judgment by DeSantis, ones that speak to a blinkered and — for all his cultural populism — elitist worldview. How else do you explain a campaign kickoff with more discussion of crypto regulation than of inflation?

"DeSantis’s decision to begin his campaign like this is a sign of weakness in three ways. First, there’s his inability to see what is obvious to Musk’s critics, which is that Musk, while perhaps a genius in some areas, is also often an arrogant screw-up whose projects break down in public. (See: the Tesla Cybertruck’s supposedly shatterproof windows or the explosion of the SpaceX Starship.) You have to be fairly deep in the right-wing echo chamber to believe Musk’s self-presentation as a swaggering Tony Stark figure who can be counted on to deliver.

"Second, DeSantis’s decision to make his tacit alliance with Musk such an integral part of his campaign identity suggests a submissive and receding quality. He ran for governor in 2018 by emphasizing his worshipful fealty to Donald Trump, cutting an embarrassing commercial in which he lovingly instructed his children in the MAGA gospel. Now, coming out of Trump’s shadow, he’s opted to attach himself to another big, strong friend rather than stand on his own. Last night, after the announcement, his campaign tweeted a bizarre, music-less video that features DeSantis speaking about immigration over a montage of images of him and of Musk, as if they were running for president as a team..."

Desantis is waiting for Trump to lose another big case and face jail. Then he can be the last man standing. The others have no traction. He can snooze and get the Red nomination.

DeSantis and Trump are both major assholes.

They both lie about their height. DeSantis claims to be 6'1", but he is 5'9" in all his pictures, and he does like boots that add two inches to his height, so he might be 5'7". trump claims to be 6'4", and demands that no doctor ever check that. he may have been close to 6'4" once (with rounding up), but has lost an inch or two due to his advance age, and poor health practices. Best guess is he is 6'2"

Biden was 6'1", but now is 6'. He does not seem to care who knows. Obama is 6'2", and has not lost any height... Yet. Harris is 5'2", and again, does not care who knows. She had to order a shorter desk, because her desk was built for man a foot taller than her.

In Russia, you can be killed for estimating Putin's height, but it probably is around 5'7". In Ukraine, Zelenskyy actually listed his honest height of 5'7" in his show business biography.

Trump talked many times about people how in the admin had to look like they came from central casting. He is a terribly superficial person. In order to fit his own standards, he has to lie. For him, that is easy. You know Trump wrote or controlled what his physicals said. Doctirs do not write what Trump showed us.

trump released a letter where his doctor Bornstein "accidentally" misidentified himself as his own father. I doubt anyone misremembers their own name, so I am betting trump had the letter written up, and then had Bornstein sign it.

Here's the supposedly 6'4" Trump standing next to the 6'1" Obama.

You guys are missing the 4D chess game DeSantis is playing. If you want to replace Trump you have to be able to prove to his base that you are every bit the bumbling idiot imbecile, that Trump is.

To the Trump base that is the feature and not the bug!

Marty, you forgot to mention DeSantis raised more with that announcement than anyone in history.

DeSantis delayed raising money until the first 24 hours, but he also did raise a lot.

DeSantis has been skimping on his exploratory committee for a month, but was then able to raise $8.2 million in 24 hours, impressive. Biden did not need to delay contributions, has no real primary challengers, and was able to raise $6.3 million, also impressive. trump raised "almost nothing" in his first 24 hours, and only $9.5 million in the first 6 months. Somehow he spent all that without having much activity (DeSantis and Biden have large war chests).

No wonder trump wants to be nominated by "proclamation", he does not have the money to campaign for the nomination.

trump can donate as much of his own money to his campaign as he wants... LMAO!!!

In a sense, Tim Scott got the biggest donation in the first 24 hours. He was able to donate $22 million from his left over Senate campaign money to his Presidential campaign. That puts him ahead of DeSantis in fundraising, and way far ahead of trump in every financial metric. Then again, we all know that trump is simply not good with money.

Again, trump can donate as much of his own money to his own campaign as he wants... LMAO!!! That joke never gets old. Sadly, he thinks he can withdrawal(steal) as much money as he wants, and usually does.

Even his worst legal issues won't land him in prison before the election. That's why trump has been stalling every case. By the time things get heated up in Ga./Mar A Shithole, it will be right in the middle of the primaries. I'm betting all cases are paused. trump will be demanding his rights to say whatever he wants during the apex of his campaign.

By Fla. law, Puddin Hands was not allowed to run for POTUS until his pet legislators passed a law allowing same.

Is this before or after he raided the dr.'s office and stole all of his health records?

DeSantis presenting himself as the guy for the party of limited government thinks politicians should tell teachers what to teach, what books libraries should have on their shells and, as of yesterday, what health policies doctors should prescribe.

Healthier even than Theodore Roosevelt who became President at 42, less than three years after leading that horseback charge in Cuba (until the horse got tangled in barbed wire). If you can do it without laughing, imagine
Trump in that picture.
