Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes sentenced to 18 years for Jan.

Relying on a trove of messages between the group's members discussing "civil war" in the event of Biden taking office, prosecutors argued that Rhodes and his co-conspirators were willing to take any action necessary, including using force, to stop the certification.

Prosecutors also presented extensive evidence of the group's planning in advance of Jan. 6, showing how members stashed a massive cache of weapons at a hotel just outside city limits that the government argued would be transported into Washington in the event Trump invoked the Insurrection Act.

Interesting to think what the Trump team had planned if Pence did call off the certification. Pretty obvious that with any criticism or objection, no matter where that came from, or even if minor, Trump would declare Martial Law. Where he would take the country from there is anyone’s guess, but I wouldn’t put dismissing Congress and declaring himself President for life out of the question

Afederal judge on Thursday sentenced Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes to 18 years in prison following his conviction on seditious conspiracy theories for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

The sentencing represents the longest prison term yet assigned to a figure involved in the riot, coming after Rhodes was found guilty on numerous other charges last November, including other felony charges such as obstruction of an official proceeding.

Seditious conspiracy carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence, but the Justice Department also sought a terrorism enhancement for Rhodes as well as other Oath Keepers defendants.

“He exploited his vast public influence as the leader of the Oath Keepers and used his talents for manipulation to goad more than twenty other American citizens into using force, intimidation, and violence to seek to impose their preferred result on a U.S. presidential election,” the Justice Department wrote in a sentencing memo earlier this month.

Until Trump wins the presidency.

Merged this with the other thread. There was nothing new added, nothing will be lost in the merge...

Martial law. Seizing of voting machines. Military overseen elections. It would have been the end of democracy.

It would have been the civil war the RW wants. Personally, I'd be sniping terrorists. LOL

Chilling words on future elections: ‘Peril to our democracy’
“I dare say, Mr. Rhodes – and I never have said this to anyone I have sentenced – you pose an ongoing threat and peril to our democracy and the fabric of this country,” Mehta said.

“I dare say we all now hold our collective breaths when an election is approaching. Will we have another January 6 again? That remains to be seen.”

The judge, refuting claims Rhodes made during a 20-minute rant earlier in the day, added: “You are not a political prisoner, Mr. Rhodes. That is not why you are here. It is not because of your beliefs. It is not because Joe Biden is the president right now.”

“A seditious conspiracy, when you take those two concepts and put it together, is among the most serious crimes an American can commit. It is an offense against the government to use force. It is an offense against the people of our country,” the judge said.

“It is a series of acts in which you and others committed to use force, including potentially with weapons, against the government of the United States as it transitioned from one president to another. And what was the motive? You didn’t like the new guy.”

“Let me be clear about one thing to you, Mr. Rhodes, and anybody who else that is listening. In this country we don’t paint with a broad brush, and shame on you if you do. Just because somebody supports the former president, it doesn’t mean they are a White supremacist, a White nationalist. It just means they voted for the other guy.”

“What we absolutely cannot have is a group of citizens who – because they did not like the outcome of an election, who did not believe the law was followed as it should be – foment revolution.”

Mehta echoed these warnings later Thursday, when addressing a second Oath Keepers defendant, Kelly Meggs.

That is the question, what was the plan…

And if trump somehow manages to steal the election, all of these terrorists will go free.

He's a major asshole. He was abusive to his own family. I hope he gets some of his own medicine in prison the nazi prick.

Interesting. This sounds exactly like the Hunter tax issues. Why isn't a whistleblower complaining about Manafort skating on the majority of what he actually owes?

The gaslighting of the Trumpers is epic. Trump was clearly a pedo, but they claim Biden was one to muddy the waters.

I'm all for rooting out corruption in government, but all the Trumpers and LW extremists seek to do is push Whataboutism. How sad is that?
