I'm a social Royalist!

I got so caught up in the coronation that I had to settle for a health food lunch--two slices of leftover pizza with two glazed donuts.
Then the avatar and I tried to walk it off.

The American revolution had very little to do directly with the King. By the late 18th century Parliament was the preeminent institution ruling Britain and it's Empire.

Most of the American revolutionaries objected to the taxes parliament passed and the fact that we were not allowed to have representatives in parliament. In short, they felt they had been robbed of their rights as Englishmen.
 
The Crown funded the colonization, and then the colonists didn't want to pay taxes.

Tough to identify the good guys in any war other than World War II.

I'm back now, and back on my laptop, checking my spam [which is basically all of my e-mail].

The next time that I check for e-mail on my phone will be the very first.

The only thing that I know how to do is delete everything--
e-mail, missed calls, call history, texts,
everything that they can dump onto your little "call for takeout " machine--
just delete it all without ever having looked at any of it.

To me a cell phone is a simply a phone away from home that doesn't take dimes or quarters as in civilized times.
Instead, you get a monthly bill.

[And there's no place for Superman to change his clothes anymore. No wonder crime is rampant.]

But I do muddle on the laptop a little bit.

The American colonies were more lightly taxed than England, but they still objected because they hadn't voted for it. Then there were Brits - like Edmund Burke, the so-called father of conservatism - who thought the colonials had every right to object. On the other hand, Britain had spent a lot of money defending the colonies against the French and Indians. A majority in Parliament thought they owed something for that.

It's interesting to speculate how the world might have developed differently if a compromise had been reached instead of the Anglosphere being split in half. Unfortunately, both sides saw it as a matter of principle. :dunno:

Nice work.

The Brits learned from their experience with the American revolution. They consciously made sure their Canadian provinces had a larger guarantee of local autonomy and local self rule, which ensured continued Canadian loyalty to the British crown and empire
