Thanks for proving you are a RUSSIAN BOT once again.

This is not Biden's DOJ. This is America's DOJ!

And America's DOJ is doing what is in the best interest of United States- NOT RUSSIA.

So naturally, the DOJ is busting Russian Propagandists who are breaking the law by interfering in our elections and are not properly registering in accordance to FARA!

So this thread should go over about like a fart in a spacesuit!

wow a lib is totally siding with fascism

how shocking

fyi - we have three branches - the DOJ is the executive Branch - it is totally Biden's DOJ

I certainly have had my differences with Rupert Murdoch, but I'm skeptical that he's a large fraction of the American Oligarchy. I certainly haven't seen him mentioned in any article bringing up U.S. oligarchs so far. Here's 2 articles published recently that I found interesting:

Oligarchs: From Ancient Greece to Russia and the U.S. | greekreporter.com

Bernie Sanders: ‘Oligarchs run Russia. But guess what? They run the US as well’ | The Guardian

When I think about our homegrown American oligarchs. I Consider Bill and Melinda Gates, Buffett, Tom Steyer, the Kochs, the Waltons, Michael Bloomberg, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Paul Singer, George Soros, Art Pope, Sheldon Adelson, Penny Pritzker, Pierre and Pamela Omidyar, Rupert Murdoch. They are just a handful of the multi-billionaires who use money to sway presidents, for better or worse. They come from every political corner, and they all use personal wealth to enhance their political clout.

Atop the list of American oligarchs is Donald J. Trump, who used his personal fortune, his connections (known and unknown), and a vast repertoire of unsavory political tactics to become president. Whether or not he qualifies as an evil-doer oligarch depends on the outcomes of various ongoing investigations. Did he use influence and power illegally, or more egregiously than any of his predecessors? Has he used his position as president to enrich himself or his family?

It seems inevitable that some rich people will use their wealth to grow their wealth, and to grab power when they can. It may be just an unfair fact of life that money buys access; the problem is when that access metastasizes into something criminal and corrupt.

Russian and American oligarchs are here to stay. Only through the efforts of an independent Department of Justice, an independent FBI and a courageous Congress can checks and balances secure our democracy.

As voters and citizens, our job is to stay informed, learn all sides of the issues, and find out who stands to gain when a new law or initiative is proposed. Government 101: Money buys access to power, here, there and everywhere.

Well, as far as I know, Fox News is the only major news network that dared question the covid masks, lockdowns and vaccine mandates. Before Covid, the only thing I liked about Fox News was its willingness to question voting machines, something that didn't used to be relegated as a right wing issue, but then, the last time, Trump won, so it I suppose it stands to reason. People always seem to be more willing to question things if their candidate of choice doesn't win.

The allegation is that members of the African People’s Socialist Party were involved in a 'foreign malign influence campaign'

By Dave Decamp

The Justice Department has indicted four Americans, including three members of the African People’s Socialist Party and Uhuru Movement (APSP), over their political views on Russia, a step that has grave implications for First Amendment rights.

The allegation against the Americans is that they were involved in a “foreign malign influence campaign” directed by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). The DOJ also indicted three Russians related to the case, including Aleksandr Ionov, who was initially charged last year.

Ionov is a Moscow resident who founded the Anti-Globalization Movement of Russia (AGMR), a non-governmental organization. The DOJ claims that Ionov used the AGMR to conduct Russia’s “malign influence campaign” and recruited Americans to spread “Russian propaganda.” The indictment alleges the Russians were involved in a 2019 local election in St. Petersburg, Florida, one city where the APSP is based.

“Russia’s foreign intelligence service allegedly weaponized our First Amendment rights – freedoms Russia denies its own citizens – to divide Americans and interfere in elections in the United States,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen.

Offices and homes affiliated with the APSP were raided by the FBI in 2022 over the group’s connections to the AGMR. Omali Yeshitela, the leader of the APSP who was indicted by the DOJ, pointed out after the raid that his group has worked with organizations around the world for decades.

“At our First Party Congress held in Oakland, California in 1981, we received solidarity statements from organizations and governments from around the world,” Yeshitela wrote in an article published by Antiwar.com in March 2023.

“This helps to give lie to the notion that our connection to a Russian NGO is evidence of an illicit relationship that we would have with a ‘foreign power,'” he said.

Yeshitela strongly denied that his group was working for Russia, and they appear to have been targeted for their political beliefs. The APSP has expressed support for Russia and denounced US involvement in Ukraine, but the group has been speaking out against US foreign policy since it was formed in 1972.

Yeshitela said in the article that he expected to be indicted and that the government would likely use the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) to go after him and his group.

“This is selective prosecution. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee and other Israeli lobbying organizations are seemingly immune from prosecution under the FARA law despite their obvious public function as agents of the Israeli government,” he wrote.

When you find that you need to misstate the charges in order to make your argument you effectively rebut your own argument.

They were not arrested "for Their Political Views", there being no statute for such an arrest in the first place. They were charged with with "conspiracy to defraud the United States" and with criminally impersonating agents of a foreign government.

The fact that they were charged with "conspiracy to defraud the United States" doesn't mean they are guilty of such. Nor does it negate the very real possibility that the -real- reason they were charged was because of their political views. Tell me, are you aware of Mccarthysm? Just in case you're not:

McCarthyism, also known as the second Red Scare, was the political repression and persecution of left-wing individuals and a campaign spreading fear of alleged communist and socialist influence on American institutions and of Soviet espionage in the United States during the late 1940s through the 1950s.[1] After the mid-1950s, U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy, who had spearheaded the campaign, gradually lost his public popularity and credibility after several of his accusations were found to be false.[2][3] The U.S. Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren made a series of rulings on civil and political rights that overturned several key laws and legislative directives, and helped bring an end to the Second Red Scare.[4][5][6]

Is it really though? Have you not considered the very real possibility that what we're experiencing now is a renewed Mcarthyism?

The one and only question the post addressed is whether you misstated the charges, which you did.

I think a far better question then the technical legalese used to indict the 4 Americans was the underlying reasons. From what I've seen, I think that journalist Dave Decamp is right in his belief that the -real- reason they were charged was because they disagreed with Biden's DOJ in regards to the war in Ukraine. Honestly, it seems that racism may be involved as well.

From an article referenced in the article I quoted:

by Omali Yeshitela Posted on March 5, 2023

There are strong indications that in early 2023, I, Omali Yeshitela, Chairman of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP), founder of the Uhuru ("Freedom") Movement, will be indicted, along with other Uhuru leaders and members, by the federal government of the United States.

Using the bogus and slanderous charge that we are "Russian agents," the U.S. government and its "Department of Justice" will attempt to put us on trial and imprison us for fighting for the liberation of African people in the US and around the world.

But they will fail. We will win.

I am 81 years old. My political work for the last 60 years or so is influenced by the fact that in my entire life, nearing 100 years, I have not known a single day when my people were not experiencing oppression, exploitation and humiliation. For most of my life, I have worked to build the movement for freedom for black people in the US and around the world, most significantly beginning with my work as an organizer with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in the 1960s.

Since 1972 I have organized and led the African People’s Socialist Party and the Uhuru Movement, a worldwide organization fighting for the self-determination of African people everywhere. Our organizational presence extends to nearly every continent. We exist throughout the US, Europe, the U.K., Africa and the Caribbean.

Our Party presides over more than 50 institutions of economic development and self-reliance for the African community including numerous projects in north St. Louis, Missouri known as the Black Power Blueprint.

On July 29 of 2022, the FBI violently and militarily raided my home in north St. Louis, Missouri where I live with my wife, the Deputy Chair of the African People’s Socialist Party, Ona Zené Yeshitela, along with six other homes and offices of Uhuru Movement leaders.

The people charged with the crime depend on the government to know what the crime is so they can defend themselves. Indictments are not the same thing as press releases from the executive branch. Indictments list the statute violated and the basics of how the statute was violated.

Anatta used the word "articles" which means there is more than just the article in the first post.

Based on the antiwar.com article, "The allegation against the Americans is that they were involved in a “foreign malign influence campaign” directed by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB)." It's right there in the justice.gov article just in case you don't trust the antiwar.com article:

Based on the antiwar.com article referenced in the opening post, the charges are spurious. One of the indicted predicted he would be charged back in March and had this to say then:

From what I've read from a group of doctors, there is no Cov 2 virus, or any other biological virus for that matter. I've been debating the issue since December of last year over in the following thread:

They are apparently accused of such involvement or there would be no legal grounds to prevent them from protesting on their own.
If they are being harassed for legally protesting, thst indeed would be an issue.

For starters, I think you have far too much faith in the law. But secondly, this is hardly the first time that the U.S. government has attacked the African People's Socialist Party, or APSP for short. Omali Yeshitela, chairman of the APSP and one of the 4 Americans charged, wrote an article back in March wherein he stated his belief that he would be put on trial soon. In this article, he gives some background to the egregious actions of the U.S. government with his organization in the past:

**
In 1996 more than 300 militarily armed police attacked the Uhuru House in St. Petersburg, FL, with airplanes and helicopters. They pumped the entire reserve of tear gas in the city into the Uhuru House where a mass meeting was going on following the police murder of an 18-year-old African teen. This was the same Uhuru House they just invaded and raided again on July 29.

[snip]

After the FBI raids on seven offices and homes of the Uhuru Movement in two cities in the pre-dawn hours of July 29, 2022, there was a tremendous amount of interest, support and outrage coming from literally millions of people and organizations throughout the US and the world.

Numerous organizations and individuals including St. Louis Alderman from Ward 18, Jesse Todd, Zaki Baruti, President-General of the Universal Afrikan People’s Organization, New York councilpersons Charles and Inez Barron, Marsha Coleman-Adebayo, Nellie Bailey and others sent messages of support, all of which are cited on our website HandsOffUhuru.org.

I suspect you're right. It's certainly true that the last time that Uhuru house was attacked was during Bill Clinton's time. From an article I found on the subject:

**
* In the days following the Treibunal the St. Petersburg police threw cocaine in front of the Uhuru House in an attempt to justify an attack on the Uhuru Movement but the Afrikan community exposed it as a set up.

* On November 13, 1996 the Grand Jury was to present its verdict of acquittal and prior to the verdict being delivered the St. Petersburg police began practicing military maneuvers around the Uhuru House. They later announced in a press conference that they intentionally targeted 3 Uhuru members to "prevent violence" following the verdict. The police arrested Uhuru members: -Keith Stewart as he drove up to the Uhuru House, he was surrounded by Green Team SWAT police who arrested him and took him to jail because they said the tags on his car expired. -David Willard was arrested earlier in the day on trumped up charges. -At the same time they were attacking Keith Stewart, Chairman Omali Yeshitela pulled up to the Uhuru House and began to exit his car with a security person. As this happened the St. Petersburg NPDUM local president Kinara Zima(who is the niece of Lil' Bobby Hutton) came out of the Uhuru House to see what was going on the police proceeded to spray pepper mace into the faces of both chairman Omali and Kinara Zima as they arrested Chairman Omali's security.

* That night was to be the regualarly scheduled NPDUM mass community meeting and approximately 100 people were in attendance. * The police declared it an "illegal meeting" and told people they had 5 minutes to leave the Uhuru House. About 30 seconds after the announcement the police proceeded to shoot tear gas into the from and sides of the Uhuru House and into the public Gym causing men, women and children participants to become sick and disoriented. Everyone escaped out of the building through the back.

* Then the police began setting fires. They shot tear gas canisters that set a tree in the back of the Uhuru House on fire. As people in the community attempted to put out the fire, the police shot more into the tree in a deliberate attempt to burn down the Uhuru House and provoke the community.

* There are also eyewitnesses to the police deliberately setting fire to an Afrikan run auto repair shop. When the owner attempted to put out the fire he was threatened with arrest.
