20-year-old woman shot and killed after turning into wrong driveway

A young woman was shot and killed Saturday after she and a group of friends accidentally pulled into the wrong driveway while searching for a friend's home in upstate New York.

Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy said during a Monday press conference that the suspect, 65-year-old Kevin Monahan, fired off two shots from the front porch of his Hebron, N.Y. home, one of which struck the vehicle Kaylin Gillis was in.

The group drove away in search of cell service, eventually placing a 911 call. Gillis was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived in Salem, around 5 miles from where the shooting took place.

"It's a very rural area with dirt roads. It's easy to get lost. They drove up this driveway for a very short time, realized their mistake and were leaving, when Mr. Monahan came out and fired two shots," Murphy said. The killing, the sheriff added, was "very sad," describing Gillis as a woman who "comes from a good family" whom he knew.

It must have been white people because no one's race is mentioned. In the article you posted they said his this case was similar to the one in Kansas City and they mentioned white shooter and black victim but couldn't be bothered to do the same in this story

No secret

I don't get it.

How does anyone shoot a person who simply rings their doorbell, or drives up their driveway?

It's insane. People are either terrified of other people, or just crazy.

This is actually a great post. It is insane but I'd suggest this stuff just doesnt fall out if the sky. It's a response to something. The intellectually lazy answer is racism. This incident is likely all whites so it sont get much play. Why do you think this has happened twice in a few days?

Both old white guys sitting at home watching their TV’s which are feeding them bs, stoking their paranoia.

I see these as symptoms.

I don't think we realize how toxic things have become. It's a gradual thing, so we just get used to it year after year. But it is SO much worse in politics now than it has been in modern times, and that trickles down to almost everything. I even see it in sports - there used to be more fun banter between fanbases, and now it can be pretty vitriolic. It's like where people used to see adversaries, they now see enemies.

We don't really like each other anymore. That sounds sappy, but it's the best I've got.

That all seems true as far as it goes. I'd say it's like this because some groups have labeled disagreement as a bad thing and as result those who disagree are bad. There is an expectation that some things are completely intolerable.

Don't torture the ignorant asshole who shot her, but put him to sleep right away.
We really need to put dangerously defective people humanely to sleep if we want to do anything about this ridiculous gen violence.

Start with the 74,000,000+ people who voted for the orangutan.
For the price of seventy-four million euthanizations,
we could instantly have the greatest nation on the planet.

Think about it.

Because the vast majority of gun owners are irresponsible. They have them to use.

I don't side with the gun lobby as most folks here know, but this can't possibly be true.

If every who has guns in America shot people with them, America would have the population of perhaps Burlington, Vermont.
If fact, even in liberal Burlington, everybody has guns.

It is NY. The democrat run "Nirvana" for them. Always gun violence in NY. The city is a cluster fuck and upstate has more inbreeding than the city. This should not be a surprise to anyone.
