I had never heard of trans in my youth until college.

One of my Engineering friends spoke of seeing a black man walking on a country road in a dress with lipstick with a carload of young guys following him and shouting insults.

We all agreed that it was rather bizarre for anyone to pretend they are not the gender that they were born with. I still believe that it's bizarre.

IMO, I don't believe those two are equatable, unless science has been able to conclusively show that homosexuality is clearly evident in the brain wiring. There is a difference between choosing to be gay and 'feeling' like you're trapped in the wrong gender. Being gay is NOT a gender identity issue, just like being Bisexual isn't.

I don't buy in to the whole 'pray away the gay' shit.

I think it's more like they're 2 sides of the same coin. Some would argue that homosexuality is a mental issue also - someone is born a man, so naturally they should be attracted to a woman. But they're not. They're attracted to other men. Similarly, a transgender is born a man, so they should naturally think they're a man. But they don't - they think they're a woman.

It's not a massive difference.

I'm a dude - I think I'm a dude. I can't imagine if I lived in a society that sent me to some doctor or clinic to try to change that belief.

I understand that SOME would argue that..........but SOME would be wrong. It's a fundamental misunderstanding between choices and mentality.

Oppose that action then. It doesn't mean you have to "oppose" transgenders in general.

Many groups have activist factions that push for more extreme measures. No one should define the entire group by those actions.

Well, I don't think any of it is a choice - being homosexual, or being transgender. It's something most who fall within those groups are born with.

Trying to change that through some sort of therapy is likely to do more harm than good.

I equate homosexuality to preferring redheads, or big tits, or derrieres...........to my mind, it's a choice. If a man finds other men sexually attractive, it's a choice. if a woman finds other women sexually attractive, it's a choice. If someone feels they are in the wrong gender, that's a mental issue. whether that mental issue is actual brain wiring or a desire to be another gender still needs to be discovered.
