trump has already said he will avoid live debates, and most Republicans have called for other possible nominees to avoid debates. Biden is seen as too good at debates.

A fallacy fallacy argument. That doesn't mean Biden would participate, only that the Republicans currently won't. I can understand why the Republicans would pull out. The moderators of late have proven--the most obvious and egregious case was the Romney- Obama debate where CNN's Candi Crowley injected herself into the middle of the debate angerly telling Romney he was wrong--to be less than dispassionate and unbiased.

Your response shows a complete lack of understanding. The presidential debates have become, like on the vast majority of university campuses, one-sided affairs where the moderator(s), presenting group, etc., have all colluded against one side in it before it even begins. It is like that recent conservative judge was treated at Stanford.
If you knew in showing up, that the moderator was going to use 'gotcha' tactics and questions against you while soft balling the other side, and putting political spin on everything you said to make you look bad, while the other side got preferential treatment, would you participate? Or, if you might get a situation like the Romney - Obama debate where the moderator openly sided with your opponent, would you still want to show up?
The Republicans aren't "killing" them, the Democrats and Left are. Why the hell do think conservatives, outside the most feisty and combative ones don't want to go to college campuses? They don't want to enter a snake pit of venomous enemies that won't give them a single moment of respite. It isn't that Republicans can't debate, but rather than today the Left and Democrats--interchangeable terms now--don't want to debate. They want to shout down their opposition without ever hearing what they have to say.
