Utility bills I California will soon be based in income

Wow. They keep coming up with novel ideas to run out the top earners. Ingenious!

Yep the left will punish people who make money every chance they get. They blame the "rich" for all that they think is wrong with America. They want equality all right, equal misery.

More like they keep coming up with ideas to turn the state into Cuba or Venezuela...

And it's short sighted even from an energy use perspective. What do they think will happen with utility use if the cost to use it is fixed? The state couldnt meet the demand for energy when people were paying for what they used, i wonder what they think will happen now?

in economic terms, it will be the tragedy of the commons, just on a sliding scale based on income

Even more to the point, what about people who were paying little, and they decide to not even pay that? Will the state, or utility, aggressively seek to end use if all they were getting was $15 to $20 a month from the customer? It would barely be worth sending someone out to pull the meter.

At the other end, I could see a 'rich' customer who sees their bill say, quadruple, simply disconnecting from the grid entirely and going with a diesel generator and solar panels in combination on their mansion because it's cheaper than paying the utility. Again, the utility ends up losing money.

So it's happening that the cost of utilities in CA will be based on how much money people earn and not on how much they use.

Wrong. People only would qualify for the fixed rate if they control how much electricity they use.

This fixed-rate plan would reduce monthly bills for low-income customers and if electricity usage is controlled.

They will just charge the higher earners even more.

The high earners will either find a way around it, or they'll just pack up and leave the state. Either way, the government and utility gets left holding the bill... Rich people didn't get rich by being stupid. And rich people that are stupid, aren't rich for long...

I agree. I'd got one of these Generac systems that powers your entire home with propane.

Here's a novel idea, why not just charge people for what they use? Oh wait....

But that's not what you wrote.

You wrote that this program would encourage people to use as much electricity as they want and just pay a flat rate.

You were wrong.

The program only applies to people who limit their use of electricity.

So, how would the government determine that? Would they look at past usage, or would they decide on the basis of some arbitrary formula? My bet would be the later, where they make the limit artificially low to force you to "save" electricity to the point of privation.

That is what they say, but it is unlikely to stay income or net worth based for long. This will become one of many tools used to help the people the Regime wants to help and to bludgeon the "bad" people.
