Abortion Backlash Freaking Out Republicans

You don’t have to compromise at all if you don't wish too. But if we’re talking about winning elections the position you hold will cost the Republicans more than it will help and then you’ll have far less of a say in the policy that’s made.

I think I will pass on compromising on the killing of children.......I think that's the least I owe the birthmothers of my two children.....

And therein lies the party's problems. I've tried to have, for example, gun discussions with some of the Trumpers. I acknowledge that the second amendment gives them the right to own guns, and suggest that maybe, just MAYBE we could put some additional measures in place. Their answer? FUCK OFF. GO AHEAD AND TRY TO TAKE MY GUNS YOU LIBERAL FUCK.

So I'm done trying to compromise. They need to be erased from the public discourse.

you realize you're still a liberal fuck either way, right?.....

To have an actual discussion it takes two people willing to do so in good faith. When that does occur walls come down and it can be a positive experience.

You’ll notice how little of that occurs here. It’s the same partisan lines and people screaming at each other day after day without actual talking. And JPP by no means has a monopoly on it.

I know in real life I have several liberals friends that I can have the positive types of discussions with because at the core we have respect for each other and don’t view each other as enemies we need to eliminate. To me, you learn a lot more in that type of environment than when people are screaming back and forth past each other. Very little accomplished in that environment.

You are one of the good ones. Sadly, you are in the minority. I used to approach discussions from the standpoint of 'we have the same goals'. I don't believe that any longer. I don't share any goals with the current Republican party, because their goals, IMHO, are abhorrent. They are marginalizing minority groups, while at the same time arguing that we can't make white kids feel bad so we won't teach slavery. What DeSantis has done here is shocking, but very predictable. But I am optimistic that we can get back to wanting the same things. Sadly, I think a reckoning is going to come before that happens.

I’ll offer an anecdotal story. Sam Francisco is both an amazing place but one with a lot of problems. I could start off conversations with people here saying “see, this just proves progressives can’t govern and we need to elect Republicans to clean up this mess” etc. If I did my conversations wouldn’t really get too far for obvious reasons.

Instead I come from a place of loving the City but concerned about the problems and discuss the problems more than getting into a partisan discussion. That’s how I’m able to have discussions with liberals IRL. It’s not like me and someone else will solve the city’s challenges by ourselves but it goes a lot further than if I just attacked them.

Try to get it right, Marty..."unborn children."

If the unborn child is not murdered by the mother, that unborn child will become a born child...Marty.

Do you understand now, Marty.

Sez the ex-USAF Captain and present White Supremacist supporting the mass murder of Libruls.

From a moral standpoint abortion is not strictly about a woman's body. At fertilization a woman is now carrying a separate and distinct life form that will become a human being.

To dispute that biological fact would be silly. However, that does not mean that she should not have a choice in motherhood or not. Women have been aborting since before civilization began. It is only fascist and/or theocratic nations that insist that it is a sin/crime.

should daughters also be counselled on how to avoid pregnancy?

Yep. All adolescents should be given nonjudgmental facts about sexuality, reproduction, consequences including pregnancy and/or disease, etc. They should also be able to get nonjudgmental birth control too -- both males and females.

I don't need a dictionary... if you have children you would understand so I guess you don't...

Shades of how you used to call another poster w/o kids "barren," like that's the worst thing you could be.

Thanks for weighing in here. Look for another receipt for a Planned Parenthood donation in your name.

I think some on the pro life side are sincere - but I think that opposition to abortion is largely about controlling women.

Which is so ingrained in our history. It's much more obvious in, say, the Islamic world & 3rd world countries - but we have American Taliban here. It's just more subtle.

That's only one, largely discredited view, TOP.

They could just as easily be described as unwanted clumps of cells, not unlike malignant tumors.

I feel obligated to balance one extreme view against the other,
feeling all along,
that mine is the less extreme.

Perspective is everything, but in the end,
it's the American Christian Taliban trying to stop women from having reproductive freedom,
not sophisticated America forcing right wing women to abort their ill-advised offspring.

As a hard left social democrat, I'm mostly about universal healthcare, union friendly labor laws, and sophisticated public education.
If I have to muddle in these social issues, however, there's none about which I feel more strongly.

Human fetuses and embryos are not children.
In school, we had them in jars, floating in formaldehyde.
As a teacher, I'm sure that you had them too.

Well said, well said. :hand:

BTW despite the claims, she is not a teacher.

PS...If you ever get a chance to bet on whether I'm a teacher or not (and that day is coming, I'm sure...;)) bet everything you've got that I am...My winnings will go to my now nationally famous High School...;) And maybe a bit to dog rescue, of course...
You'll be able to vacation with your wife and avatar if you bet wisely...

how about encouraging preschoolers to question their gender and get genital mutilation surgery?

Exactly. It's "pro-life," not "anti-abortion" because "pro" sounds much more positive. Yet they lose the right to stand on a pro-life morality soapbox and tell everyone else how to live, when they support the death penalty and refuse to consider passing legislation to protect already-living children from mass shootings.
