I have read a lot of history and sociology, and have been an informal student of human nature and how it works in large societies as a whole my entire life, this law shit is just to pay the bills because being a professor does not pay the bills... How did we get here, how did we end up with a 20-25% of angry disaffected mostly uneducated Americans promoting a media whore, corrupt criminal with no morals to the position of demigod.
We could go back much further in American history to Benedict Arnold and Jessie James and other deplorable Americans who formed a cult following, but lets start in the 1980's to keep this short enough so some of them might try to read it.
The Republicans elected Hollywood elitist Ronald Regan president and claimed the moral high ground over Baptist Preacher Jimmy Carter. (It recently came out that Regan's people lobbied the Iranians to keep the hostages until after the election). Regan preached about keeping the kids off drugs and the evil Russians as morally inferior and gasp, heaven forbid atheist's.
Electing the first divorced President was the first step toward the break between them claiming moral superiority and actually caring about reality. Ronald Regan was tall and looked the part, he preached about moral superiority and that was all that mattered. Jimmy Carter, while a devout preacher with an impeccable personal history of morality, did not brag about it or moralize in the way Regan did.
Next GHW Bush, the Connecticut elitist whose wealth came from the corruption of his grandfather laundered through the Texas Oil business. He beat the ethnic looking Michael Dukakis who was the children of poor Green immigrants. Bush Sr. lost his second election after running a campaign that the Arkansas yokle non-elitist had no business in our Pristine white house, he was offended by the very idea. He clearly felt he was the better person and deserved it. Clinton was some yokel interloper from Arkansas not properly educated in any of New England's best prep-schools like Exeter or Roxbury Latin. But Bill Clinton won. Clinton joked about having sex as a teenager in the flat bed of a ford pickup truck... (The Republicans were outraged)
Bill Clinton (The Southern Baptist) was president and the economy flourished. Bill however couldn't keep it in his pants. He was with low class women and cheated on his wife.... What really mattered was that he cheated with a Jew and it became public. Bill Clinton got reelected anyway and false morality did not really matter anymore, being from the New England ruling class did not matter. Bob Dole Lost anyway. Taxes went up on the elites and down on the middle class. We ended his presidency with a budget surplus.
W, came in with a fake Texas swagger and a undercurrent of racism, promising he would keep the wealth where it belonged, but he continued Republican policies of keeping the wealth with the New England Elitists. He lied us into a war with Iraq to avenge his daddy and appease the wealthy defense contractors that employed his VP. W did not raise Taxes but spending (mostly due to his defense contractor war with Iraq) skyrocketed. The economy reacted with a major crash.
Barak Obama was elected, the elites went ape shit, demanding so see his birth certificate claiming he was not even an American. He was not one of the moral elites because he was not even American, that was the undertone. Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas claimed he was born in both Indonesia and Africa. Clearly not an American elitest and he was not born wealthy. He was not educated in the New England Prep Schools. Taxes went up on the Elite and down on the middle class. This really pissed off the New England elite again.
Along comes the twice divorced, had a child out of wedlock, crass and wealthy New Englander from all the fancy prep schools who did not have the manors and fucked hookers at will. The Republicans ate it up, one of them who could dupe working class voters that he was one of them. Whats even better, no morals at all!
Taxes went way down for the wealthy elite, and a little down for the middle class, while unsustainable, everyone was happy in the short run. He did not have the balls to stand up to the war machine and kept the never ending war in Afghanistan going.
