Whether to invade Iraq or not was the most important decision of our generation.

Some FP, p.com, and JPP posters showed good judgement and made the right call.

Other posters from those boards were catastrophically wrong, and spent years denying they had shown poor judgement.

I remember when the crash actually happened

This does nothing to change the Constitutional powers of war declaration, nor does it change the War Powers act. All it does is revoke the Iraq invasion authorization. A president, any president could still invade Iraq again unilaterally under the War Powers act. That gives him 90 days blanket authority to go to war. Congress then has to approve a declaration or other measure allowing the president to continue past 90 days.

This was a meaningless gesture as the Iraq invasion is over, and we've withdrawn. It's essentially clearing the books of a relic that's no longer relevant.

That is something though. Perhaps trying to erase the past. Bush had the power to control the message. He sent staffers all over the news and talk shows pushing a needless war for oil. He had Powell do a phony war dance at the UN. They were telling lies and attacking anyone who disputed them. It was a career-ending move to stand up to them as Phil Donahue found out.
That power still exists.
