DeSantis is way better…

You claim I do not understand, when in fact I simply do not see it from the same lens as you. There is federalism, and that is a different issue, not one relevant to my complaints about DeSantis. Within a State are issues of local control at the City and County level, and at the School District, police department, legal level. There are likely other levels I am not listing. When the Capital of a large State mandates what a School board can do, or what a locally elected prosecutor can do, it is expanding the size of the STATE government and shrinking the authority of the LOCAL government entities, it is taking away local control.

Reedy Creek board elections were decided by district landowners, who get one vote for each acre they own. And Disney owns two-thirds of the district's property — about 17,000 acres.

You like that kind of "democracy"?

So it's like comparing gonorrhea to syphilis, gonorrhea being DeSantis and Trump being syphilis, given a choice like that, DeSantis is better?!!

I disagree, I think DeSantis has a basic understanding of our Constitution, how Democracy works and I think he believes in Democracy. That is key to being president.
Its like Comparing Trump to "W". W was a bad president, and was responsible for many unnecessary deaths of american soldiers, but he did not try to take down the actual system of government.

In my opinion, there are some issues in School Districts and other areas where some issues are better left to the people living in that community. You see, at least here in Florida, there are huge differences in different parts of the State. What is good for Hernando County is not what is good for Miami Dade County.

This post is basically you saying, "Yes, Damocles described me correctly."

I explained above the difference between big government (centralized Federal authority unconstitutionally grabbing powers not given to the Federal Government) and small government (State/local), and even noted that you considered DeSantis exercising state authority (setting state standards) was, to you, "big government".

I get that you think that the local school district should overcome the state power to set standards for education, it just isn't "funny" that DeSantis thinks that exercising State power over Federal power is small government. This, to me, is a lesser variant of Trump using words he doesn't understand to describe DeSantis.

It also shows a fundamental misunderstanding of your own state's constitution (article IX) which gives the State this power.

No, but I also do not like why they changed it.... I also do not like the new system where the Governor gets to appoint his biggest doners.

I understand and disagree with you. I think local government making local decisions is small government being in charge where is should be... I think State Government making local decisions is BIG government taking power it should not take, making the state government bigger.

You said, "Jarod, of course, doesn't quite understand what localized, state, etc. government means as "small government" as opposed to Federalizing the law."

The fact is I do understand it very well, I was not discussing Federal and within the context I was writing about the State Government is BIG government compared to the local government. YOU GOT CONFUSED AND THOUGHT I WAS TALKING ABOUT FEDERALISM, I was not.

atleast the governor is voted for by all citizens of the state - not just wealthy landowners who get more votes for being more wealthy.

As I said, I described it correctly, your post even notes such. I even told you where you were going with it and why it was not "funny". I'm good with that. At least we agree on the important bit. DeSantis is a far better choice over Trump.

DeSantis is a latent isolationist, not up to par on global affairs, like the war in Ukraine DeSantis said was territorial dispute with Russia?!!:whoa: Our NATO allies and Asians allies are concerned about that America first crap and isolationism?!! America gave up it's leadership role in the world under Trump, if we do it again, it will be America first and America alone too?!! You wont get back that leadership role again either?!!

You know the majority of teachers?
I'm talking to teachers in Florida....not getting info from articles...Any problems where your kids go? Any books they dont have access to? Are they missing out on lessons? You mentioned they had a theater production where they were able to have one of the actors play an opposite gender role without problem... Teachers just want to teach and I imagine that's what they're doing... as usual the media is blowing this way out of proportion and it seems that's what you are relying on for your information...

You simply misunderstood the rest of my post. I was not talking about Big Federal Government I was talking about Big State Government. Its funny because Republicans are always whining about local control and large government taking away local decisions. Maybe that is not an issue in Colorado but it is here and other states I have lived in.

your example of big state government is absurd though. You are literally defending land owners controlling the elections.

As I have correctly pointed out, Reedy Creek was a crony democracy - it allows wealthy land owners to call the shots - and actually just one wealthy land owner

The size of government seems pretty meaningless when you completely removed the consent of the governed - which is how Reedy Creek was operating

I agree it should have been changed, I do not like what change they did and I do not like the reason they undertook the change.

The voters in W. Palm Beach like DeSantis.

Did the ambulance chaser vote for DeSantis?

Let's see how long they keep voting for Nazis.
