If you're going to invoke Christian philosopy, at least get it right.

History knows it as the Protestant work ethic, a 19th century theory by German sociologist Max Weber. Not the Christian work ethic.

God-fearing southern Protestant slave owners could hardly be called hard working. They kidnapped people from Africa, held them captive, and made them do the hard work.

The theory of the Protestant work ethic is supposedly based on the fact that Luther and Calvin placed value on all work, religious or secular. The historical Catholic tradition privileged religious work and religious vocation over secular work and manual labor.

Calvinist predestination made people concerned if they were among the elect, and success in business and mercantilism was supposedly taken as evidence of being elect.

Proverbs was not written by God, Jesus, Paul, Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.

Proverbs was written by the Jewish king Solomon.

Anything Jesus said or did trumps anything King Solomon said, in the Christian tradition.

Why don't you find some quotes from Jesus teaching his followers to commit themselves to the pursuit of business and profit.
