"This is not the first time that the communications team of DeSantis, who has campaigned on a war on “woke,” or his administration has published exchanges with reporters or criticized the news media.

Last April, DeSantis spokesperson Christina Pushaw declined an interview request with The Washington Post and suggested to her Twitter followers that The Post was trying to blackmail her by writing a profile about her. She ultimately offered limited cooperation with the reporter.
DeSantis is proving he's an autocrat.

Damn, paywall. What did he do to get fired?

Axios reporter Ben Montgomery was fired over an email response he provided to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Press Office calling its press release “propaganda,” according to Alex Lanfranconi, the department’s communications director.

“This is propaganda, not a press release,” Montgomery wrote in an email response Monday, according to a screen shot Lanfranconi shared.

I am really surprised at Axios. He spoke the truth. Axios decided he was a liability.

I am surprised at Axios.

Agreed. IMO, there's something else going on.

I've listened to pilots complain that an instructor during a check-ride was unfair and mentioned something that was wrong, but not awful. It usually turns out that what they mentioned was the "last straw". They weren't failed for that one thing; they were failed for all the other stupid shit they did. In the reporter's case, I wonder if there were other things he's done that accumulated to the point where his remark was "the last straw".

How strange. There wasn't anything wrong with his comment; it is true. I guess the emperor doesn't like having his lack of garments pointed out.

I was wondering that myself.

Allegedly, he was fired for calling a DeSantis PR release "propaganda".

Axios reporter blasted for calling DeSantis DEI roundtable press release 'propaganda'
Axios reporter Ben Montgomery apparently referred to a roundtable event hosted by Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., as "propaganda" on Monday.

Florida Department of Education communications director Alex Lanfranconi revealed an email reply from Montgomery regarding a roundtable discussion on "divisive concepts such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, Critical Race Theory (CRT) and the impact that these concepts have had on Florida higher education institutions and the students that attend them."

In a reply, Montgomery wrote back "this is propaganda, not a press release."

"This afternoon, Tampa based @axios journalist @gangrey decided to respond to our press release with the below," Lanfranconi tweeted.

If DeSantis was elected in a legitimate Florida election,

then the people of Florida consciously and entirely of their own volition voted for a police state

and have thus far not been disappointed.

German Chancellor Adolf Hitler was also legitimately elected in 1933.

Sometimes people actually get what they want.
