America's first Pacific president

The remark was reported alone and out of context; who knows what other comments were made or what the topic was? It could easily have been a reference to the fact that he was born in Hawaii. Given the rest of his remarks as reported in the article, that would, in fact, be my guess.

He reached out to locals through several personal notes that delighted his audience, including calling himself "America's first Pacific president," referring to his time in Indonesia and travels in Asia as a boy, and saluting the residents of Obama, Japan.

it is a pretty arrogant comment, it is not reaching out at all...rather another look at me and how great i am comment

and ib1....you add nothing, as usual lately

You have failed :good4u:

You make the accusation that the remark was reported alone and out of context; but instead of supporting your complaint, all you did was heap on more conjecture. :palm:

Obama stated a fact. He is the first president born in the pacific. We know you guys hate facts and think anyone who uses them is arrogant but that you are reallhy not going to gain any ground with American voters with this idiotic tact.

I think you underestimate the American voters.

You'd be right:

Politico.com

Obama spoke extensively of his own roots in the region – his birth in Hawaii, living in Indonesia as a boy, his mother spending nearly a decade working in the villages of Southeast Asia. “The Pacific rim has helped shape my view of the world,” Obama said

I think it was pretty obvious he was speaking about his life experience, and growing up in Asian countries, and being from Hawaii, even without having to post an article.

Seems like garden variety presidential rhetoric demonstrating a commitment to an ally or a cause to me.

I'm not sure what point this thread was supposed to make. Yurt, do you need some smelling salts and a fainting couch to go with that dose of faux outrage?
