Columbia University to No Longer Require SAT/ACT for Undergrad Admissions

The SAT was eliminated to help Blacks gain admission.

It doesn't matter who says it, it's true.

Test taking should not determine ones ability to spend 4 years at a university toward a degree.

At a university in general or at any university?

I believe in public education, but is a private institution allowed to determine its own entrance requirements?

In my personal experience, most people, not all, perhaps, seem to be roughly as smart as their SAT scores.
I mean that sincerely, not as a snide remark.

Come to think of it, this guy has me on ignore and will not see this.

How do you know what their SAT scores? You are lying.

As long as they don't discriminate by race.

Yep some medical schools have reduced their MCAT requirements for everyone so as to help more minorities to qualify. Not totally a bad thing as long as the don't reduce it too much.

As long as they don't discriminate by race.

If they don't accept federal funding, I'm not even sure about that.
It wouldn't be morally satisfactory, to be sure
but a university isn't a public restaurant.
Like a country club, it should probably be allowed its own admission standards in all areas.
But then, it would have to not get any public funding at all for anything and pay normal property taxes as well.

Columbia University never said the SAT was eliminated to help Blacks gain admission.

Of course they didn't SAY it, you damn moron. But everyone knows it. Blacks do terrible on tests because they are so dumb. Only reason they graduate from HS is because of socalled "social promotion" which forces teachers to pass them even they never learned a thing.

It is against the Constitution or so says the Supreme Court

So you think a private business should be able to discriminate on the basis of skin color????

I don't think that at all, no;

but every incorporated manifestation isn't an open-to-the-public private business.

There's gray area, perhaps.
Ethnic centric social clubs, for example, were once very common in my city and probably still exist to a smaller extent.

Are universities more like restaurants or clubs? It's not an obvious call.

Columbia University is no longer an elite university.

It’s become mediocre.

Why would they do that?

Dumbing down the standards dumbs down the university.

The SATs are being taught for kids of means. They have classes on how to do better. That spreads minority scores from suburban white kids.
