Is "Make America Great Again" a racist slogan?

Just watching the Bryan Cranston interview w/ Chris Wallace. He makes a good point: if you're black, when was America "great?"

If you watch Obama's inaugural speech, and see African Americans crying about what a milestone his election represents, you realize how far we've come. If you watch what happened w/ Kyle Rittenhouse, and imagine how it would have been if he was black, you also realize how far we have to go.

Interested in other thoughts on this topic. I have always felt there were some racial undertones to "MAGA," and I'm actually 100% that for some supporters, that was what it was about.

I don't think there's any doubt that it's racist. Trump tapped into the demographic changes and allowed white people to express anger over the erosion of their privilege. MAGA is just another way of saying Keep America White.

Your choice but it fits the definition below.

na·tion·al·is·tic /ˌnaSH(ə)nəˈlistik/ adjective
having or expressing strong identification with one's own nation and vigorous support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.

Was the British thing a means to ignore the war in favor of self-interest? I'm not really familiar with it. On the surface it seems tame though.

With all due respect to the OP did we just get time warped to 2016 when this question was the topic du jour?

Here’s an article on the use of the term by both ‘sides’ prior to Trump.

Then there's this:

This is their trigger

The US white majority will soon disappear forever

Since the settlement of Jamestown in 1607 and the start of the Colonial period, the U.S. has been predominantly white.

But the white share of the U.S. population has been dropping, from a little under 90% in 1950 to 60% in 2018. It will likely drop below 50% in another 25 years.

White nationalists want America to be white again. But this will never happen. America is on its way to becoming predominantly nonwhite.

America has been great for any minority ( a democrat term) in this country since they could travel where ever they want, work where ever they want, shop....where ever they want, buy a house where ever they want....get any job where ever they want....invest where ever they want.....see a trend here asshole? "Racism" in this country is a democrat construct. Without it they have ZERO to stand on. People have woken up to this shit. democrats where always racist and still are.

The slogan was to prepare Brits to fight for their nation. To fight against Nazi domination.

Why do you think all nationalism is bad? Sure, it's not the Star Trek universe of world government and world peace, but it's the best we've got until all nations recognize peace is better. Notice the actions of Russia, North Korea and the wars in Africa. How can people of the world hope to live in peace if they don't have a nation to protect them from the violent assholes of the world?

Ergo, nationalism is good for our age, but not an ideal for the human race in the end. Obviously too much nationalism can be bad such as Bush's War in Iraq but the Ukrainians are happy nationalism exists since it's helping them to defend themselves.

I'm talking more about divisionary nationalism that blames others instead of trying to lift ones self.

Thanks for agreeing nationalism isn't bad per se. Only when it's misused to attack others is it bad, such as Bush did in Iraq.

And since we've known this was the trend for at least half a century, the MAGA morons who just figured it out 7 years ago can go fuck themselves.

If a slogan is profoundly stupid, and used only by profoundly stupid people, does it even matter if it's racist or not?
