Does the numbskull who posted the above have even an inkling that following the Civil War states in the South remained solidly Democrat for another hundred years until the Civil Rights movement turned them into Republicans.
By the early 1960's discontent with Democrats had been growing in the south in reaction to the party's liberal shift first under Franklin Roosevelt, then Truman. It worsened with Kennedy. Then Johnson and enactment of the Civil Rights Bill became the final straw. Ever since, what was once the solid Democrat South has been the solid Republican South. There's a reason black voters today are overwhelmingly Democrats.

Regarding your incorrect comment that the South seceded because Republicans outlawed slavery, the slavery objection that fueled the war was solely the lack of cooperation by northern states in enforcing the Fugitive Slave Act which required states to return blacks who fled to other states. As for slavery itself, it was not only not touched but Lincoln went so far as to offer to propose a Constitutional amendment to preserve slavery if it would stop the rebellion.

The southern States seceded because Republicans not only wanted to outlaw slavery, but also because Lincoln wanted to take private property without compensation, in violation of the 4th and 5th amendments. Remember, slaves were private property. You should probably read the secession documents put forth by each State seceding and joining the Confederacy. Each one prominently mentions slavery as a driving reason.

As for slavery itself, it was not only not touched but Lincoln went so far as to offer to propose a Constitutional amendment to preserve slavery if it would stop the rebellion.

The Constitution did not need amending to preserve slavery. It already existed under the Constitution (see the 10th amendment and Article I). It WAS amended to outlaw it (see the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments).
