Trains

Yes, but didn't you do that a good while back in your navy days? The world has changed a lot since then.
Wrong person, Rama lover. Terry and I are the only two retired Naval personnel on JPP. Yes, the world has changed. An example is the economic boom in South Korea since I was there in the early 80s.

Thailand hasn’t changed much since Rama would rather play with a train set than build a modern infrastructure. His oppressive regime and the violent, raping Royal Thai Police have oppressed Thais and kept the nation stagnant.

One day the Thais need to rise up and take down both the Pedo King of Thailand and the Royal Thai Police. Line them up against a wall and dispense justice. Do you agree? Send me a PM if you do.

I don't think so. I've been around the planet more than once and most places suck compared to the US.
Agreed most of the world sucks, but you and I both know that doesn’t include the First World nations. Our political leaders are in the pockets of corporations which are too busy reaping profits to build new infrastructure. The US is falling behind because too many Americans are fighting each other instead of those who are robbing the nation blind.

We have been having terrible politicians.

The corporations do not want profits reduced to make railways safer and better. CEOs are judged by yearly profits. They spend money on election campaigns and lobbying. That makes more profits. I am sure any politician would want to fix this problem. However, politics is the business of getting reelected.

Last time I was in Japan was a bit over 2 years ago...

Yes and my son lives in Tokyo and I will see him soon, so what? Talking about trains I was in the brand new Bang Sue central rail terminal in Bangkok this morning, that was well impressive. 26 platforms and 38 tracks, not bad for a Third World shithole!

Impressive or not, trains don't work in the US for passenger service except in very limited circumstances, mostly on the two coasts between destinations that are no more than a few hours apart at most. Transcontinental rail service is an absurd joke.

The high speed train service to Kunming will start there. The place was spotless and the staff incredibly helpful.

Bullshit, 15 hours is a very easy trip overnight for example.

160mph average X 15hours = 2400 miles

And if you are a businessman or other person travelling on a tight timetable, a 4 or 5 hour flight beats the shit out of that. Airplanes rule, trains drool. Passenger train service died out in the US for a good reason. It was uncompetitive and still is.

Have a nice dinner, socialize, go to sleep and arrive at your destination early the next day rested and ready to accomplish is a sweet deal.

Nope. Take the 'red eye' to where the deal is, conclude it that day, and fly home that evening. The same thing went when the Concorde was flying. Time is money and time wasted is money not made.

Aside from that, I can't see a high-speed train from say New York to LA not stopping at least a half-dozen times in between adding say another 6+ hours to the trip.

Its worth noting that airlines get less and less appealing over time, to include that they fly quite a lot slower than they once did.

You're making some gazillion dollar deal or something or need the tax write off you fly business class, or even take your private jet. Trains are for the peasants.

They also start and terminate well outside big cities so you need to add the time to get to them and wait for passenger checkin and baggage carousels.
