Hong Kong isn't exactly a liberal democracy though. They have a bizarre electoral system which allowed conservative parties that won 40% of the vote in the last election to win against progressive parties that won 60%.

The prospects of that probably make conservatives drool.

Not exactly home rule. There is a 50 year agreement under what is called 'the basic law'. However most people are fighting for what they chant as 'Universal Suffrage' few really understand what it means I think. Personally I do not think HK is ready for democracy. It is my opinion that if HK fights for democracy and actually gets some form of it, they will screw up. The PRC can then 'demonstrate' to anyone who gives a damn, that HK needs the 'motherland'.
The other possibility is that PRC will slowly but inexorably move towards a form of democracy and that HK will, in time, accept it as they see Taiwan and Macau fall in line.
That need not necessarily be bad for anyone. PRC has certainly made their form of government work. Their economy is as successsful as any and more successful than most.
I doubt that I will be around to see it. But for sure there are interesting times ahead.

I did, they were sentenced to jail for breaking the law....are you suggesting we have special sets of laws?......yes, this batch was arrested for crossing the street on a green light while being non-white!.....Thirty years!.....

Perhaps you would like to re-read post number 20 on this thread. Then engage what passes for a brain in your society. Then answer the question I put to you. Basically I asked if you, as an American, could tell me why 70% of your prison population is non-white. (I did not say black). Your answer that they are criminals is, I'm sure, void of intelligent thought. Try again. To repeat: do you think that non white people in America are born bad? or are they made bad? and if so what is it about American society that makes them bad?
Now I appreciate that your answer will require several sentences but give it a try, why don't you?

I suspect by "childish game" you mean challenging your assumptions.....apparently you believe they are in jail simply because they aren't white.....that means you are assuming that we either have laws that affect only non-whites or that we only arrest people who aren't white for committing the crimes....which is your claim?......I have posited another alternative.....that our legal system is effective and that the people in prison are people who have been caught committing crimes....offenses against statutes which are not racially structured......the majority of people in our prisons have ended up there because of activities related to addictive drugs.....I will further speculate that most of the non-whites that are in prison are there because of committing violent theft related to acquiring money to buy drugs, or being actively engaged in the dealing of drugs, or gang violence related to fighting over the territory in which to sell drugs.....

now, is that racist?.....
