Another Republican disaster

It is known by the appearance of the wheels of the derailed train in Ohio that the brakes had failed. Wheels were melted in such a fashion that it was obvious that the wheels and brakes had failed prior to the derailment.

In 2014 the Obama administration proposed and passed more stringent regulations for brakes on freight trains. The regulations would require electronic brakes over (or in addition to) air brakes on all freight trains carrying hazardous materials.

However, after industry pressure and Republicans were involved, the final measure ended up including only trains carrying crude oil and exempting trains carrying the very same hazardous chemicals involved in this disaster.

Then in 2017 the trump administration after rail industry donors delivered more than $6 million to republican campaigns, Donald Trump backed by senate republicans, rescinded the regulation in its entirety that would make better braking systems on the nation’s rails a requirement.

Norfolk Southern had previously touted the new technology known as Electronically Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) brakes for their “ability to reduce train stopping distances by as much as 60 percent over conventional air brake systems.” Nevertheless they pressed to repeal the rule saying it would impose significant cost and the fat fucking shithead in Washington was none too happy to oblige them.

When asked if those electronically controlled brakes would have allowed that train to stop in time, the former senior official at the railroad Administration said “yes, no question about it”.

Now we have Butyl acrylate, ethylhexyl acrylate, vinyl chlorides and now phosgene that are extremely toxic dumped in the surrounding soil and water. Thousands of fish are already dead and floating as much as 7 miles downstream. It is inevitable that they will find these compounds in surrounding wells and as stable as they are they will be there for a long time. Phosgene gas is what killed thousands upon thousands of soldiers in WWI.

I’ve said it before and will say it again; if this accident disturbs you there is a way to put a stop to much of it. That is when it comes time to vote, DON’T vote for any republicans. I don’t care if it’s local, state or federal; none of them give a shit about you. Vote democrat down the line.

The only bright side to this disaster is the fact Trump carried Columbiana county with over 71% of the vote. At least we know that when those people start dropping dead from cancer or their kids are born with three eyeballs, we know most of those dumbshits will have deserved it.

The disaster in Ohio didn't start until the federal retards on the scene decided that the best way to deal with the derailment was to create the equivalent of a gigantic burn pit and burn off all the bad stuff that was on the train.

As for what you are talking about, that was a bipartisan effort to kill that legislation. Also, that was years ago, and if the Democrats alone thought it worthwhile, they could have brought it up with Biden for a second go-around. But, they didn't.

In any case, the issue isn't so much the derailment. Those happen pretty regularly. Instead, it was the response afterwards that was the problem. The train cars weren't presenting an environmental disaster covering miles around the accident until idiots at the EPA, probably FEMA, DoT, and other agencies decided to turn it into the world's largest chemical burn pit. This is what you get putting your trust into 'government experts' who are anything but experts.

Remember, the same bunch of retards at the EPA caused the Gold King Mine disaster poisoning an entire watershed and several rivers with toxic sludge and heavy metals.

You can also bet that the government won't hold themselves accountable or libel for this. Instead, they'll blame the railroad company for their failure.

As for this:

I hope you rot in Hell for your hatred of innocent people fucked over by the government.

Nice try, but a fail.

Emotional bullshit for the most part. Let's take phosgene for starters, it has a boiling point of just over 8C or 47F, but I wouldn't expect a fool like you to know that. You can tell you're an imbecile because of your emotional references to the WW1 trenches.

Of course it's futile attempting to engage you with science, you're a typical Regressive who always behaves emotionally, it's baked in.

Pitt expert: nothing 'threatening or concerning' detected in EPA air quality readings

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio —
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency detected what one expert called “significant” levels of fine particles in the air during the hours following the controlled release of vinyl chloride from train cars that derailed in East Palestine, Ohio.

But chemicals that could have posed much greater risk to human health were not detected at dangerous levels, a University of Pittsburgh scientist who reviewed the EPA data confirmed.

I am a scientist that has been working in the field of toxicology for over 30 years. Not sure what you are getting at but they intentionally set fire to containers of vinyl chloride in hopes to prevent their explosion. You burn vinyl chloride you release phosgene gas. Google WWI and phosgene and see what you get. People are returning to their homes after evacuation and finding dead pets and chickens. Naa, nothing threatening there. Give it another week or 2 and see how fucking stupid your comments are.

If you really are what you say you are, then why do you respond so emotionally? Yes phosgene is nasty stuff but it also has a very low boiling point so won't hang around for very long.

You're a tenacious twat I'll give you that, why did those fuckers start burning the vinyl chloride, any answer for that or are fixated on braking systems?

I remember that Gold King Mine incident. That was in the Obama days, no? It cleared up after a year or 2.

You have no way of knowing that. Implementation of policy can take decades. Retroactive laws are illegal in the US. Therefore, the rail company wouldn't have to retrofit their older trains and cars with this system, but rather implement it as they replaced them.
Aside from that, there were both Democrats and Republicans who were against this law / regulation.

Your rebuttal also fails to address the true disaster here, the decision to burn off these chemicals.

I remember that Gold King Mine incident. That was in the Obama days, no? It cleared up after a year or 2.

Actually, the EPA washed their hands of it. They told all those fucked by their actions that they couldn't be sued for it, then just let the shit they released dilute over time or settle out in the river beds. There was no attempt at clean up or remediation.

The Environmental Protection Agency said Friday it will not repay claims totaling more than $1.2 billion for economic damages from a mine waste spill the agency accidentally triggered in Colorado, saying the law prohibits it.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gold-king-mine-spill-colorado-rivers-epa-claims/

You can bet your ass if it was some private corporation the EPA would have forced them to pay it all AND probably prosecuted those they felt were responsible. But when it's the EPA's fault, too bad for you...

Eh, rivers flow and settle. The EPA was responsible, though.

Under-regulation is the Republican mantra.

It would be good if people who don't believe in government would just stay the fuck out of it.

The pols are the lackeys for the oligarchs, and the rank and file who vote for them care about nothing but "Fuck the libs who look down on us for being stupid."

Some people should stop saying perpetually down there, always giving us something to look down upon.

'Trump never killed 150,000 American youth in with the toxic chemical called, fentanyl. Biden did. And it's still going on?

To date, Biden has killed 150,000 + young Americans in short order with an extremely toxic chemical. "What chemical is that?", you ask. The chemical is (N - phenyl - N - [( 1 (2 - phenyl ethyl)] - 4 -piperidinyl] propylanamide) -commonly referred to as FENTANYL. And the death toll keeps mounting every day..

Seems very much like another major DEMOCRAT DISASTER to me - AN INTENTIONAL DISASTER !. The demented perpetrator of this horrific mass - murder, Biden, should be brought to trial and given the death sentence. That's what happens when you vote Democrat - you ridiculous, little, liberal "fart - chaser.."

Why would they select that gas for use in WWI if it has a low boiling point? The phosgene may not stick around but the 4-5 other compounds are known carcinogens and persistent.

Anyone who still votes for a Republican in ANY election is either crazy or stupid. But it is almost impossible to get them to see that, since being crazy or stupid is a formidable impediment to understanding anything.

VOTE DEMOCRATIC...OR JUST DO NOT VOTE.

You're a tenacious twat I'll give you that, why did those fuckers start burning the vinyl chloride, any answer for that or are fixated on braking systems?

A couple reasons, one is the risk of explosion and that is what they will tell the public. The second would be that vinyl chloride is extremely toxic and a couple train cars worth will contaminate the soil, the surrounding wells and who knows how far downstream. It has already been detected in the Ohio river on its way to the Mississippi. By setting it a blaze they get rid of as much as possible before it has a chance to do that. That is why they evacuated the area, they knew what they would be generating when they did. They might have choked a few people and killed a few pets with the gas they let off but they hopefully have prevented completely killing everything in Leslie run, and Bull and little river creeks. (although it appears too late for Leslie run, it now has thousands of floating dead fish)

Vinyl chloride is a known human carcinogen. Low level exposure to vinyl chloride will increases the risk of cancer in the liver, blood vessels, kidney, stomach, and skin.
People come in to contact with vinyl chloride if their drinking water is contaminated. Because vinyl chloride easily moves into the air, people can also be exposed by breathing it in when it is released from soil or water.
Vinyl chloride enters the environment if it leaches from landfills, if it is spilled or released from industrial sites, or when related chemicals break down.
Most vinyl chloride has entered the environment after past releases or disposal of common, widely used chemicals. Vinyl chloride moves easily and quickly through soil into groundwater. Vinyl chloride is very volatile, meaning it easily moves into the air as a gas, from soil or water or during production processes. Once in soil or groundwater, it can take months for vinyl chloride to break down.

The acceptable level in drinking water is 2.00 µg/L (parts per billion). That concentration is 500 times less than 1.00 ppm. It is not unheard of with this sort of spill to see it in surrounding wellwater at ppm levels. I don't know who will be testing this soil or groundwater for VC but it may be me, it is precisely the sort of thing I do for a living. I am currently working on a toxic pyrethroid determining just how long it will hang around in soil and water and just what are it's breakdown products as it does.

Yes the train would likely had electronic brakes and this accident not occured at all. I have addressed the reason for burning it off.
