WASHINGTON — Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, announced on Tuesday that she would not run for re-election in 2024 but would finish out her term in Congress, making official a retirement that was long assumed by her colleagues who had grown concerned about her memory issues and clearing the way for what is expected to be a costly and competitive race for the seat she has held for three decades.

Ms. Feinstein, 88, has had acute short-term memory issues for years that sometimes raise concern among those who interact with her. She has never acknowledged the problems.

Fuck the bitch

Long overdue, her and a dozen others, nothing more embarrassing than a Senate Hearing on TV

Not surprisingly this has been getting a lot of local coverage. The real action will be who is her replacement. When Kamala Harris left the Senate for the VP role Newsom appointment Alex Padilla as her replacement. He's LatinX but there was still a lot of pushback against Newsom for not appointing a black woman. The two early favorites to replace Feinstein are Adam Schiff, a straight white male, as well Katie Porter who is a white woman. Again, a lot of pushback so far. Barbara Lee, a black woman, is running but she's in her late 70's.

Nancy Pelosi has already come out and endorsed Schiff, which is huge for him. A lot of writing about why would she back a straight white male (long story short, loyalty). A Democrat is going to win the seat. There's a good chance the General Election is between two Democrats as a Republican likely won't make the top two in the primary. But this could get nasty as identity politics rears its head.

these politicians lie so easily. I just watched the video of her lying about her retirement not realizing her staff already made the announcement.

She has short term memory issues, she probably doesn't remember. They should put her and Biden in the same room, they'd get to meet each other again every 30 minutes or so. Biden could read a speech to introduce her over and over again and try to shake hands with imaginary people... Put it on a streaming service, it will be the new reality hit.

There is just no end to the lies and bull shit you spew.

I thought NIMBYism was the last remaining vessel of bi-partisanship in this country but maybe we can add term limits to the list?
